Mobil 1 at Walmart

I think 04s use 10w30 and 05s use 10w40.More importantly is the rating .Use the SL .It is better than the newer SM,which is designed with catalytic converter longevity in mind rather than your engine.I am currently using the Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel truck oil.The newer Mobil 1 is SM rated and in this case newer is NOT better !

actually on my oil filler cap it shows to use 0w-30 mobil 1, however my viper tech said 5w-30 mobil 1 where I live is just fine. As far as the SL rating I just pulled a jug out of my storage cabinet in my garage and it show the SL rating.

Paid $19.97 for five quart containers of 10w30 syn at Walmart today...sign said reduced price...bought five jugs!

They had 10w40 and 15w50 at the same price...

I thought the price was good...maybe not?

You're the professor; you should know if that's a good deal.. Since it evens out to about $3.99/qt, YEAH I'd agree that's a great deal. I'm used to seeing $5.79/qt around where I dwell.. I'm hitting Walmart tomorrow..

'04's are 10w40 really shouldn't make too much difference...

Prof,
Not to drag this on but yiou change your oil every 3k? I figured with synthetic I could go 5k or poss even 7.5k?
If you are warranty minded at all, the manual does say every 3000 miles or 3 months which ever comes first :burnout:

Not to carry this out but here is what my owners manual says (I have an 04)

The manufacturer recommends the use of full synthetic engine oil, such as Mobil 1 SAE 10-30. The manufacturer only recommends engine oils that are API certified and meets the requirements of Daimler Chrysler material standard MS-10725. Use MOPAR or an equivalent oil meeting the specifications MS-10725.

But now that Chrysler bombed out - Use what you want, it's your truck  ..

Leave it to a woman to read the manual! Denise that's just not fair, we could have gone on arguing the oil issue for hours...now you have gone and spoiled all the fun.

(And what a woman!)

3000 K is good. Ted may Showed me my oil after 2500 miles and it started to thin out:dontknow: Like patrick said check the condition of your oil periodiacally and change according to how you drive. Heat is Bad
The oil only thins out from heat. Let your truck cool down and check your oil. You will see its back to normal. Annu get yourself some tools and start doing this stuff yourself. $175 is way to much to spend on a oil change.

i usually go 5,000 miles with Mobil 1.Every 3,000 for my 5.9 in the 99 RAM.Change filter every other oil change in the 99 but every time in the SRT.

who spills 2 or 3 quarts when doing an oil change? damn dude get a funnel!

Buy 10 quarts...you will only need about 6 or 7 but since it is the first time, you will spill at least 2 or 3 quarts. Until you learn it is a messy job. You can get the Mobil 1 Syn ATF anywhere they sell Mobil 1 Syn oil.

When you drain your transmission you will see what comes out...it looks like sewer sludge, grayish green...gear oil. I trust the manufacturer of the transmission more than the manufacturer of the truck.

Read more carefully...it was the transmission fluid change that we were discussing...first time on transmission change...you will spill lots...funnel is not an option...unless it has a 45 degree bend and is very, very small.
