Looking for opinions, and/or experiences on motorcoaches.

Getting closer to retirement and I want to have a coach paid for when I retire. Done a lot of looking, and research, and so far what I have found is as far as quality, it's a crap shoot, unless you go with a $700,000+ bus conversion.

I'm looking at a 40 to 45 foot diesel pusher. Right now I'm leaning towards a used coach for a couple reasons. First is the depreciation is terrible on these things. Second is the quality issue. People buy them new, and work out all the problems and then tire of them and sell them. Works for me.

So, any motorcoach owners out there with words of wisdom? :dontknow:

PM "FATJACK" He's the sales manager for a RV Store. Cool guy too!

Oh, and sorry I offer no wisdom for you! :D

My wife and I are considering the same thing in a few years. The one's we like are made by Alfa Leisure http://www.alfaleisure.com/mh/ . They say they give you more for your money plus they have 7 1/2 foot ceilings. That's probably not a problem for a knuckle dragger like you.:D Used is the way to go as long as you get a well cared for low mileage unit. And the prices are more reasonable for the reasons you gave. They don't come in yellow though.

My Ex-Father-in-Law has an Endeavour by Holiday Rambler. It's a very nice unit! Somewhere in the 300K range I believe.

I have been in it several times, and it seems to be pretty good quality. He bought it used (13K miles), and has had very few minor problems with it.

Just my $.02

majority of our clients swear by prevost. they are pricey but resale is awesome when taken care of.

My father has a Prevost Parlament style. It was in the 7 figures but it was custom built for him. But they live in it for half of the year down in Florida. It is quite a machine. His first prevost was used. It was a Nascar drivers bus. They use them for the year and turn them in. If you are down by Clearwater Florida you should stop by and take a look. And see what is available.

Hey Silver...

First some Q's....

How many days a year are you REALLY going to use it?

How many years will the RV bug have you?

Amount the vehicle will depreciate + up keep + insurance + fuel + parking fees = something equal to boat ownership

VS.

Buyins a nice little summer place that actually APPRECIATES....

:dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

Good questions. A few more are: How social are you? The motor coach crowd seem to be a social group enjoying each others company. Do you enjoy going different places and seeing different things? A motor coach may be just the ticket. Do you like going to the same place all the time? Then possibly a condo or other such non mobile place is for you. The thing my wife and I like about the motor coach is being able to sleep in your own bed (as opposed to a hotel) and know you have all your stuff with you. We like to eat out so a big kitchen isn't mandatory. You just need a place for your beer and bananas.

i agree with the summer place. i have a 40 ft park model in pierceton and my buddy had a 40 ft in bonita springs fl. the property and park model are paid for so i think it runs about 1500 a year for the maint fees and insurance and electric bill. but for around 100,000 each you could have 3 places for the price of the motor home and you would have more that 4500 a year in fuel alone. then all you would need is a vehicle at each place and you can fly inbetween. thats what the wife and i will do if i retire again.

Opinions?

total waste of money, unless you plan to live in it for a few months as the other fella was talkin.

Of course I cant stand lookin at somethin I am paying for and it not moving, hence the black POS sitting in the garage:mad:

but Nowwhat has the best idea, land, house, its something that is yours, anytime, you can rent it if ya want and have a tad of income, plus when it is time to sell, it is much easier to get more money than ya paid in the begining.

Plus RV';s are such a pain to get worked on , and when ya do it is big dinero

Okay, here's my plans. Buy a little place in Nevada, Arizona, or New Mexico for Winter. The rest of the time will be in the motorcoach, driving the damn wheels off of it.:)

I love to travel and see new, and different things. When I was young, I drove a truck with my dad. I loved it. Only thing then was you could not stop and see things. In a MC I can stop where and when I want.

Well, you get the idea.

Right now, I'm leaning towards the Fleetwood American Eagle. Figure I should be able to find nice used one in a year or two.

Thanks for the input guys. It's greatly appreciated.

WOW John, that sounds great! If you need a hitchhicker please let me know.:p :D

Remember I don't take up much room.

Hey Ape Boy!!! I'm on number 6. My newest is a Safari Simba. This is a 2005 model we bought from a gent who was in failing health. He paid $138,000 for it new and I bought it for what he owed, $78,000. Mine is a gasser however I'm averaging 12 yep again 12 miles per gallon and that is towing my motorcycle on the rack and the jetsled behind me. The new triton V10 has 385 hp with 585 foot pounds of torque coupled with a 5 speed trans. I pass alot of diesel pushers on the passes. We have owned 2 Monaco's (Good Coaches) and 2 Winnebago's and so on! Safari is owned by Monaco and I have found that they are fairly well built coaches. Monaco owns a ton of coaches Holiday Rambler, Safari, Monaco, Trek and several others. All motorhomes have issues. If you go to rv.net/forums this is a web page used by 100s of thousands of Rv owners and there is a wealth of info there.
I know that Fleetwood has some issues with formaldehyde so be aware of that.
Good Luck Bro!
Ronnie
P.S here's are baby she's a bus style with the basement underneath. Clearance is 12.5 which is pretty normal!

check out newell, my dad has had several prevost a marathon 4 or 5 country coaches(lots of bugs in these) best we had was a gulf stream atrium not a lot of bells and whistles but no problems whatso ever
