Just voice over IP, looking to change out my phone system.

Vonage works great. Lots of features. Total with tax is about $27 a month and all calls to North America are free.

Sorry, my internet has been out for the last several days...so here's the deal...we're going to come out with a residential service, but it's going to be like the end of the year before we can get it done. When we do it will far surpass all the other services out there from a quality and feature standpoint as well as be cheaper, but, it's going to be awhile before we are ready to launch. My intnet is to give the folks on the Forum a special package, maybe even have anyone who want to be a beta customer for free for awhile. Anyway, more to come on all that, it you need or want something sooner go with Vonage or someone else, just don't sign up for a long term commitment!

I'll try it Been looking to dump Qwest(local) and Sprint (LD) for awhile.
cant consolidate the 2 and tired of being overcharged for communication.
Got now idea how it works so Voip 101 would be in order

That's cool Steve. I may check out Vonage for now. But definitly let me know when you are ready to begin beta testing. I have some experience with that myself, having done beta testing for Sun, Cisco, Checkpoint, and Foundry. Thanks.

VoIP 101: Basically all you need is a broad band internet connection (IE DSL or cable modem) and a small device in your home called an IAD (integrated access device) that connects to your cable or DSL modem with an ethernet cable. You plug your phone into the IAD a viola you phone now works via your internet service instaed of the copper lines coming into the house. There are upsides (really cool features can be provided and the cost of service is MUCH cheaper) and downsides (if your interent goes out, so does you phone lines and E911 is problematic in some instances). The technology has come light years over the last 4-5 years and the quality of service has really improved from where it used to be, and it continues to improve. Soon we'll all be using it, the economics are too compelling not to. In fact, all of us are using it now on LD calls, as all the big carriers have deployed the techology on their long haul systems so if you make long distance calls today, odds are the call is being provided over VoIP equipment. The remaining quality and service issues all have to do with how the service is provided to your home/small business and all of us in the industry are working hard on ways to solve those issues for the masses. Once that's done, MaBell is going have problems keeping up wht the competition...those issues are already solved for larger businesses and the rate of adoption is increasing daily.

Now, aren't you sorry you asked...LOL!!!
