Muffler Weld Failure?

Checking out the cat-back system on Keith's truck yesterday, we found that the muffler on the Magnaflow is leaking.
Badly.

The welded seam that 'completes' the main muffler housing has failed along almost it's entire length and is leaking.

He is currently working with Magnaflow regarding their lifetime warranty, trying to get a replacement.

As a Magnaflow owner, I'm curious if anyone else has experienced such things.

Hmmm...I would like to know what happens with this! Sometimes companies look for any excuse to not warranty their product.
 
LOL, well low miles, but a little more than 11. Muffler should have about 2K on it now. Washed two times.

I bet a truck that sits for long periods of time vs getting driven daily or almost daily is more likely to develop these issues due to moisture build up inside. Just a guess.
 
Izzy- the dealer where Keith purchased the cat-back flat-out denied him a replacement. They were also compelled to speak for Magnaflow and say that Magnaflow would not replace the system under warranty...then proceeded to offer him a new unit at cost.
Nice try, clownies. :)

For the record, Keith's RumbleBee is his daily driver.
 
Ahh a Hemi.

My Flowmaster on my Hemi has rust all over the welds, but not separating like that.

I would just try dealing with Magnaflow directly to get resolution. What 3rd party vendor is he using? I do not want to deal with that kind of BS.

Stainless steel doesn't rust !!! so the moisture should not be an issue . just workmanship during the construction of the muffler and then the quality control program at the manufacturers plant. there should definitely be some warranty!!:mad: :mad: :mad: the muffler doesn't appear to have been exploded by unburned fuel in the muffler and then ignited so warranty should apply!!

While many believe this you should understand it is not true, it can rust, it is just more resistant to rust. Also, improper welding can make the SS more susceptible to rust.

Yeah. He's going to deal with Magnaflow directly.
The dealer will remain nameless until such time as he needs to be out'ed. :D
They had their chance at the plate.....and struck out.

While this particular one is on a Hemi-powered truck, I posted this out of curiosity seeing if any SRT-10 owners had experienced anything similar.

I'm hoping that Keith found the one bad one in the bunch. :)
 
This makes at least 3 Magnaflow failures, including Keith's that I have seen. If memory serves me right. One dealer did not want to warranty it, but Magnaflow stepped up to the plate. And the other one was replaced under warranty also. But I think in both cases the owner had to pay for shipping.

There's nothing clarifying shipping costs (for either party) in the Magnaflow Warranty. I think that would be a minor hurdle to get over though.

Yes like Kevan said i will let you know who it is but for now im not bashing any one until i get this resolved thanks for the insite everyone i have done nothing to the truck to have this happen im not running a 150 shot of NX through it or anything just daily driving:dontknow: any more input would be great

SOME stainless will rust and some will not. It depends on what grade it is. I work at a steel mill that melts, casts, and rolls steel. The grade and environment it is in means everything.

SS will rust i have woked offshore long enough to know that everything will rust given enough time & exposer to the elements. Hell i have even seen wood that looked like it had rust on it.
 
For those of you following this i did not get any where Kevan is going to post later im to fed up with the story to type it sorry but as for the solution

I am going to take the exaust off the truck cut it apart replace the crappy cut out with a new piece of pipe take it to a costom welder and re weld it all together to fix it
 
Buy a flow kit. I have it on my 05 Hemi, no major issues, sound is good. Performance, well, probably the weakest of all aftermarket exhaust.
