big pup. with or without a saddle???

I have 2, and the family loyalty is amazing. My dogs sleep in my daughters room when she is here, and nothing could make me feel more safe than them with her. The rest of the time, they are pure sweethearts. My family came to visit recently, and the dogs were a big hit with my niece. She was amazed at the size and manner of the dogs.

One thing I think is an absolute must.... training. When I got my dogs, I had a few books. So we started training. We then went to a obedience course. I learned quickly that the dog was not the one in training, I was. The lessons learned there have greatly improved the quality of life I have with my dogs. I felt strongly that a dog as big as a mastiff must be well mannered. The pay off for me is the control that I have via verbal commands and the freedom that allows us to have together.

Yup, they say Mastiffs are awesome family dogs......

Here's an oft posted pikkie of a gargantuan one......:

i like the bull-mastiffs myself. biggest problem with any large dog is two fold.
shortened life span and hip problems.

All about the breeder. I have an 11 year old bulldog. Not a lot of folks have seen an 11 year old bull, in fact I've never heard of another. Hasn't had to go to the vet since he had a hernia at 6 months. Avoid shitty breeders, they aren't doing you or the dogs any favors. Pay the extra money up front and you will find it's well worth it.

Backyard ought not be a problem anymore... Ali and I will sign on our new house in Montgomery Texas on the 28th! It's our dream house and will be the last home we live in. 3 acres all fenced with a barn and a shop, I can't wait! Gotta love the VA on this one. For all those with VA loans. Don't waist the VA loan on your first "cheaper" house. Wait tell you buy the bank buster you will save sooooo much money!

Dale, I can't wait. I've read everywhere that these are gentle giants. We have a boxer mix, we took her to training and expected for 3000 that we'd get a fully bit command, protection trained dog. We didn't know that we would have to put forth so much effort. At the time we were unable to be trained and therefore unable/unwilling to complete the training. We have aged a bit and hopefully that will not be a problem.

Bob, I think ali has found a good breeder they had a litter on saturday and called/sent pics. Ali got pick of the litter. They want to know the name so they can start calling him that and get him use to it. Ali picked out Hemingway...... She sure loves her HEMI! He'll be 1,000, not the most but not the cheapest either.

i also have two english mastiffs and they are great...the tails are like getting hit with cable though lol. very protective and loyal dogs for sure.

Dude Best breed I have ever owned the Male anyway:D Female was such a bitch until she was 3:argh: 3 couchs and she was locked up each time and got out:dontknow: But with him very fast and obediant to learn. One thing you do that is a must is the Food bowls off the ground, they sell troffs for them:p No but seriously It helps provent bloat in large breeds. Also great with kids, my neices and nephews are scared shitless now:marchmellow: but when they where younger, I could leave him with them and I guarentee the only way to get to the kids, You would have to shoot him ;) Like Tiny Giant said is very true there name says it all and they dont like other big dogs. there racist they only get along with other mastiffs :p Also look into getting another one, because they get very lonely and sad when left alone for long periods. To me I have the biggest 200lb sissy lap dog, But to the rest of the world The best Guard Dog in the World.
