ok, well here it is. i am going to buy a V10, my first V10.
(poor bastards at the cummins site will hate me)
was going to get a viper, but i want to tow my boat.
it will look sweet, nice shiny boat towed by a bright red truck with a huge rumble.

so my question is this... looking at them i found one listed for 22K, i offered him 18K he is thinking about it now. is that a good price for a 2004? it has just under 30K on the clock.

is there anything i should look for on the truck to tell if its good or bad? he is selling because he needs an extended cab for his small child.
(he also has a srt8 jeep)

leather, nav, 6sp, new front tires, 10K old rears. he says he never races it or anything like that.
says he has never done a tuneup. but has changed the oil every 3K.

so is it a good buy or what?

Run the VIN numbers for all recalls (any Dodge dealer can do it for you).... Run a Carfax report.... 18K is a decent deal for a CLEAN, WELL MAINTAINED truck.

Lots of folks have hitches on their RC's.... Some tow cars with them. It was warned it would void the warranty, but that's gone now anyway if it's a '04.

Welcome and good luck! Sounds like if the guy has another SRT, chances are he has taken well care of the RC. Post some pics and we'll give it a look-see!

I would not recommend purchasing an RC (Regular Cab) for the specific purpose of towing a boat.

The clutch is the weakest point in the drive train for a '04 SRT 10.

Those that tow with an 'O4 tow very small things, I have a 25 ft Mako and would never put it behind my '04.

I think a QC (Quad Cab, only made in '05 & '06) would be a better choice.

On the other hand your offer of $18k for an '04 in average shape is a fair offer.

roy...a 25'mako???....so you definitely wouldn't pull a 38' camper

if you're buying it to specifically tow your boat, then i would highly recommend a simple gear swap...the 04's have 411 gears, and the 05-06 have 456's, which, i think, are much better (coming from the guy that's been towing with his since day one...(race cars, dump trailers, my tool trailer, old trucks, pallets of river rock/stone...you name it!) i currently have 60k on my truck and the last 40 or so have been toting trailers, and have not had any trans, clutch, etc. issues (well the slave cylinder went out, but who's hasn't) ...although, i am do for a clutch now....TONY

18 would be a good price, too...

Towing wisely will not cause any problems with an RC. Look around on this forum before you buy, you may find a real bargain.

but i would say that you should get a QC. just my .02 cents
