My July 3 Accident (Fireworks)

Remember how I mentioned how I was involved in a accident fon July 3, with a fireworks show I did.

This was just a 4" display shell, it picked me up and threw me 15 feet, i was 2 feet from it when it detonated... this is why there is training and safety requirement in this biz!! =)

And these are the small ones!! We do up to 16" shells!!! thats like a small bus coming at you...

Notice the two tubes that are ovaled from the blast... they were found 20 feet from the destroyed rack...

You got it. =) My first trip of the season will be the weekend of Oct 26, 27, and 28.

I should be camping in the "the compound", its a private reserve area just behind the beach store. I will know in 2 weeks if I got my reserved spot.

Just damn glad you came out of it okay. I know I read of at least one death from a professional show.

Just out of curiousity, why don't they use electronics to set those things off? That way no one would be close to them when they have a problem.

Actually we do sometimes use it.. its up to the client, its add about 30% extra in price to the show because each squib is about $1 each.

We always use electronics for anything 8 inch or larger.

In the top pic you see all the racks with the white bars and wires going into the mortars, that show was electronic, those were 4" and 5" shells, the client wanted the entire show electrically fired.
