my "new" mopar powered project

so for some reason i decided to buy an old boat to fix up, its an 83 Supra Rider. boat is going to need all new stringers and floor this winter but seems solid enough to play with this summer. One thing that drew me to the boat was the engine...440 big block:rock: drug the boat home last night tinkered with it a little today and got it runnig, need to rebuild the carb since the accelerator pump isn't pumping but it idles nice and has oil pressure so thats a plus. heres a sound clip, the boat really isn't much to look at though

yes sir gonna try to do it myself, what stringer stuff do you speak of? i've just seen people using hardwood 2x4's, is there a composite kind of stuff out there? my goal is to re-do the boat to make it like/better than new, and paint it to match the truck(my f-250 and srt are both red)

yep, composite. stronger & lighter & last alot longer than wood.

even great from transums. but with yours being an inboard would not thing it would be a worry

Sounds bad ass! They used o throw in an RV/Marine cam in those for instant torque to yank yo ass up out the water.

well after looking up the price of the composite stringer stuff i've decided good ol' pressure treated wood is the way i'm gonna go, it lasted almost 30 years the first time, and probably would still be good if it had been taken better care of.

it would look cool, except it'd be covered up by the engine cover anyone know how many RPM a 440 can safely turn? the guy i bought the boat from said he never went over 4000-4100 with it because he wasn't sure either but said that was fast enought for him, about 50mph. However i'd like to see just how fast it'll really go:burnout:

Boats put a lot more stress on an engine than a car. If you cam it right you can still turn the piss outta it. I would not take a stock 440 past 5500 RPM which is a hell of a lot for a boat.

Whats great about the boat, is there is a lake full of 74 degree water to keep the engine cool... You can tune the hell out of them with less risk of detonation.

Six pack? You've never met Justin huh? He might have a keg, but no six pack? Lol!
I really think they used (1) 2 barrel carb to help with the torque factor and efficiency? Usually the bigger carbs were left for speed boats/jet boats. Too big of an intake and carb and it'll only be setup to run good from 35-60mph vs torque off idle to yank the boat onto plane as well as any skiers.
A whale tail on the transom is a must!

the boat has a single carter afb 4 barrel on it now, just gonna rebuild it and go with it, should have plenty of power for now, i wanna make it look pretty first and scott it has some kind of brass "wake plate" on the back if thats what your talking about
