My T-Stat install experience

Man,,,, you guys who said this was an "easy job",,, I have to take my hat off to you. It took me around 4 hours with the help of a friend. I'm definatley not a mechanic. In the end,,, I certainly learned a thing or two and I'm happy with my truck running cooler now. Justin's powdercoated T-stat housing and upper radiator hose look sweet. Pix to come on Wednesday once the rest of the engine bay is complete. :)

easy in the sense that your not doing alot(like putting on a paxton).
you were lied to, its a pain in the but.
 
What were the problems that you ran into? I plan on doing this mod very soon. Even though I'm not sure I need to. I got a SCT and now my temp runs around 180 instead of 200-210.
 
4 hours, that's an hour a bolt :p... there was one that was a total pain in the neck... but if memory serves me correctly it was just 4 bolts & some water leakage :D

I'm not mechanical either I've gotta rely on having the right tools to get me through the job:D that usually means going to the store and buying more tools :p

Just little things... Figuring out how to seat the new t-stat (basically I just had to push on the t-stat to get it in the housing),,, being insanely careful taking out the o-ring to reuse it without tearing it, assuming both clamps provided in the JMB hard radiator hose kit were the same (they weren't), spraying radiator fluid all over my engine bay like a geyser through the bleeder valve, draining a gallon or so of coolant all over the garage floor, etc..

If I just changed the stat,,, I probably would have been just fine. I changed out the housing and hose too. It probably didn't help that I don't have a shop full of tools.

I was amazed that I did ok with the radiator drain plug... I was really careful with that.
 
Took me about 1/2 hour to change out the t-stat . I used a T-30, extension and a ratchet for the housing and a pair of pliers for the hose clamp. The bottom left housing bolt was a blind and feel to get the t-30 extended driver on and the hose clamp was the bitch with regular pliers..I did not have to bleed it..still it is easy with some patients.
 
My install went ok as well. It also took me longer than the average time. I expected it to be more of a pain the but to do than what it was. Patients was the key for me too. When I did mine I put on JMB hard radiator pipes too. The lower one was a pain the but for me. I think it took me about 3-4 hours to do everything.
 
All you have to remember is Patients is a vertue --and if that doesn't work use a bigger hammer
 
Lol gawd aweful spelling!!! J/k. It was easy if you had a giant magnet ant could magnetise the 4th bolt, than it just stays on the extension as you guide it in. Much easier if someone is underneath the truck to guide it in.
 
i stuck a strong ass magnet on the extention i used and had my stat in in 30 to 40 mins ,,then i slaped in the b&m shifter next with in 2 hours i was burning rubber :burnout: baby
 
What temps are you guys running at now the 170 tstat? I'm running at about 175 right in the middle of the two lines with my stock tstat and my new sct tune. I don't think I even need to change the tstat now.
 
i did that and found out my fan was coming on over and over ,,,put thermo in and it hardly runs fan at all now
