Mystery Rattle Noise

2005 RC, sometimes when it's cold for the first couple minutes of driving I get a faint rattle like noise once in a while when it comes to a stop and is idling, which is more noticeable when there is another car next to me on the driverside. I only notice it when the window is down. It sounds like it coming from the rear of the truck.

It sounds like whe an exhaust is rattling but everything is appears tight underneath and the cats are only a couple months old- B&B mids and B&B catback. Bassani headers but truck made the noise before the headers were installed. Exhaust is not hitting anything.

I can give the the truck gas and the noise does not increase or decrease in volume at all.

Once the truck warms up I don't hear it at all.

Any ideas of what else it could be? I am having the clutch master cylinder replaced once it comes in, but the noise is not affected by the clutch pedal. But could it be a part in the master cylinder causing the noise?

Truck runs fine, no oil use, etc.

this is something that you might have to take in...take it to the dealr and should hopefully be able to track it down.
as for the clutch master, when mine was going out all it did was a little bit of squeaking when i depressed on the clutch. and i could hear it clearly within the cab, (r/c).
the squeak sounded like a damp tennis shoe when rubbing against something.

Make sure that one of your cat didn't come loose. This would be inside the pipe...

The truck will be going to DC Performance for the clutch master cylinder once the part comes in.

So while it's there I will see if they can give me an idea of what it could be.

I guess it could be a cat going bad but again it doesn't make the noise all the time like a bad cat normally does and when it was dynoed there was no weird issues with a/f ratio.
 
My Hemi didn't do it all the time either...just at idle or really slow acceleration...

Were you able to determine on your Hemi what the problem end up being or was it found to be "normal".

i had an o2 sensor do this very thing, have you tried to put weight on the exhaust while the vehicle is on and you can hear the rettle.

gl chasing this down.
 
I have crawled under the truck to check the exhaust while idling and did not see really or hear anything out of the ordinary.

But when I take it in I will have DC Performance check all the o2 sensors to see if any are bad or not and replace any bad ones if found. As I don't think they pulled any to install the bassani headers.

By chance which o2 sensor did you have go out on yours and what part of the sensor was damaged, Dragon?

Check your spare tire mounting hardeware also!! Maybe the tailgate??

I would also double check your exhaust when the truck is up on a rack and running. I know I had to re tighten my B&B system several times. I actually had too weld the last section of pipe cause it wouldn't stay tight!!!

I have a similar problem with mine but I think it's the Magnaflow catback. When the truck first cranks up, I have a rattle underneath. I can put my hand on the muffler and it stops. Take my hand off and it starts rattling again. It lasts about 60 seconds after I crank it up, presumably until the internals have warmed up a bit. After that, I don't hear it again until the next time I crank her cold. I've looked around and nothing is hitting on structure.:dontknow:
 
Ya, my 05 RC does the same thing when I am rollin slowely into 1st, and on the clutch. Its not my exhaust, or anything to do up front. Its closer to the rear end. Im bringing it into the dealership next week. Ill let you guys know what they say
 
Thanks for everyone input on this at least it appears I am not the only one with this issue.

I rechecked all the bolts on the B&B catback all were tight no leaks and it's not hitting any thing. The cats on the B&B mids are supposed to be the high flow metal type that aren't really supposed to break up this easily.

What is weird it never makes the noise when I warm up the truck in the garage only after I go down the road about 2 miles or about less than 5 minutes of driving I hear the rattle of metal against metal very faintly with the window down then it goes away after I pull away for a stoplight and does not really happen again at all except when I get off the freeway sometimes and it idles a little bit a signal and there is the faint rattle I then pull away from the stop and nothing after that.

Even when I tried moving the catback around on the hangers not a rattle.

I checked the spare and it was tight but I may drop it again to verify there is nothing rubbing or compressed in a weird way.

I talked to Tony today at DC Performance and he said when I bring it in they will check it out.
 
The more I think about it the more I think there is something loose inside the pipes or cats themselves.

I am going to have them check the entire exhaust system and if necessary pull the mids off and see if there is any thing broken up in them and check the O2 sensors and suspension as well.

They will already be checking the transmission when they install the master cylinder for the clutch

If it's found to be exhaust related as far the cats go I will need to discuss my options with DC, Who knows this may be a sign to go catless;)
 
I have the same creak. It sounds metallic. Seems like its coming from the rear of the truck. I thought it was the tailgate. It got worse once I removed the spare. I still have no clue were its coming from.:dontknow:
