I understand that we have stuff floating around in space that makes our smart bombs and all of the incredible stuff we used in Iraq look pretty primative.

As far a "Little Kim" goes, having a primative nuclear weapon and being able to deliver it are two different things. All the bluster about them having a missile that can reach US targets may be blown somewhat out of proportion. It serves both sides, politically, to have these kinds of headlines in the paper. He said the people there were repressed and starving but they were gracious and deeply touched by the gifts. He said one woman in particular was especially amazed that women in the US would take the time to make handmade quilts for people who were supposed to be their enemy. This can sometimes be a more effective weapon than military force. Anyway, it's worth a try, at least at this point.

I think alot of this BS is about NK trying to ascertain how much we really know about them... in other words about our counterintellegence capabilities. Occupancies have never and will never work. We wouldnt be overthrowing a regime in attempt to replace it with our own democracy (Iraq), we would be annihilating a country's entire populace from existence. Not one ground soldier would be sent in, nor lost.

There has never been a nation so over-stated in military capability than N. Korea. The country already starves. Think if China, S. Korea alone stopped sending them aide. Think of embargos from Japan, Taiwan and the rest of the Pacific. They wouldnt be able to afford a match to light a stick of fuggin borrowed dynamite.

The only way a big cook off is going to work is if Kim is on the spit. I don't see any way around destroying the government and military establishments. This guy is a serious egomaniac, and he is surrounded by folks a lot like himself. He will not let himself look bad, no matter what. That is what this is all about. He knows that he cannot feed his people and that he has zero chance of ever building a strong and stable economy. So, he resorts to bullying the world and showing his people how "strong" and "respected" they are. This guy and his regime have got to go, whether or not he currently has the capability of hitting the US. Do we really want to take that chance? And if not now, sooner or later they will have that technology.

As far as getting this guy to the table to negotiate it is a complete waste of time, even more so if the UN were to get involved. The UN is about as useless as tits on a frog, everyone knows that. We have about as much chance of this guy negotiating with us in good faith as there is of me breaking bread with a couple of ATF agents, zero. This guy is a real threat to the security of the US and the world and will be until he stops sucking oxygen.

The Pentagon said in a brief announcement the missile test is part of a program to test and develop anti-ballistic missile systems designed to intercept and destroy long-range missiles before they can strike the United States.

The Navy will launch a prototype interceptor missile from the Aegis-class, guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Erie in the Pacific Ocean to intercept an Aries target missile launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility at Kauai, Hawaii, the Pentagon announcement said.

It will become the first test of a ship-launched interceptor's performance in space, the Pentagon said.

Instead of testing whether the interceptor can hit an enemy missile in space, it will be a test of the interceptor's guidance system, the Pentagon said, thus allowing engineers to make any necessary corrections before the first scheduled intercept test later in the spring.
