The Navy Chief noticed a new seaman and barked at him,
"Get over here! What's your name sailor?"
"John," the new seaman replied.
"Look, I don't know what kind of bleeding-heart pansy
crap they're teaching sailors in boot camp nowadays,
but I don't call anyone by his first name," the chief scowled. "It breeds familiarity, and that leads
to a breakdown in authority. I refer to my sailors by their last names only;
Smith, Jones, Baker, whatever. And you are to refer to me as 'Chief'.
Do I make myself clear?"
"Aye, Aye Chief!"
"Now that we've got that straight, what's your last name?"
The seaman sighed. "Darling, My name is John Darling, Chief."
"Okay, John, here's what I want you to do ....."

Worked with a guy named Jerry Darling. Never called him by his last name.

We had a Private Marine. Dumb bastard came to boot camp with an Eagle, Globe & Anchor tattoo. He was a big old boy, but a bigger pussy. The Senior clocked him one day and he went running to the CO complaining about it. Every last one of testified that we never saw a thing, in fact we never saw any of our DI's raise a hand to anyone. They moved him out of the platoon that afternoon, and hopefully straight out of PI and the Corps.

No a Real Chief would have had him transfered to Deck Department that way his name would have been "Boats"... Problem Solved :D

Had a Petty Officer Petty who after this last cycle is now Chief Petty Officer Petty.

When I did my last IA tour I saw a Capt Major.

There was a basketball player named Bobby Darling who played for our crosstown rivals (Glendale High) back in the 60's. We submitted him to a barrage of cat calls and generally unrelenting hell during every game- shouts of "Oh DARLING....!" and shit like that.....

Later on he became a good dope smokin' buddy'a mine..........

"Darling".... Jesus Lord...... I'd change my fkn name....

D

This one still cracks me up....
