Need a good shop to....................

............................install my 4.88 gears and new clutch kit.Within 300 miles of Stanley,VA.Prefer a shop that someone has personal experience with.May travel further if I have to.

I would think most transmission shops could handle the job, or the Dodge dealer.

Our differentials are heavy-duty, but otherwise nothing out of the ordinary.

A reputable 4-wheel drive shop might be a good candidate.

I have to agree with hammer, As i've said before diff teardowns and rebuilds are nothin new for a dealer. The guys have plenty of experience from doing the pos 9 1/4. However just make sure the guy that does it is an experienced "old timer" and you'll be alright. A reputable 4wd drive shop is not a bad idea either yet its always nice at the dealer since you still get to keep your warranty. Thanks to Mas (uniboy) i cant get the 4.88s out of my head, wont be long before i bite and get em too...

I may take it to my dealer.I am considering doing the clutch install myself.I was just going with the 4.56's,but the 4.88's seem a little better.
Anyone know what RPM's the engine will be doing in 6th at around 70mph with the 4.88's ?

UNIBOY should chime in here, I think about 2000 would be about right.

I would think around 1800. At 80 it is at 2000.

It is about 250rpm's per every 10 mph.

Hey Mas, Your truck sounded bad ass when you left Porky Pigs BBQ ? Last week.( Not the real name) Sounds like you been busy. So from the RPM's you listed, At 70 mph You are about 250 rpm over stock 411's I was checkin it out on the way home after talkin to you.

Thanks Yeah and the gas mileage is not that big a difference either and it totally feels like a different truck.

VA, I had my clutch installed by my dealer and plan to have them install the 4.88's as well. Clutch install is not rocket science but the gears are for experts only......and you need special tools.

Good idea getting both done at the same time, then you can break them both in at the same time and not have to wait so long for the good stuff!!! LOL
