Only got 1 key when I bought the truck and do not want to wait until I need the new key to buy it and get it setup. Since I only have one I suppose I have to take it to the dealership to get another one programmed. Is this right?:dontknow: Anyone know what that would run?

Thanks,

Paul

My Stealership quoted me $112 complete.

You can get an extra Key Fob from ebay for about $15, and programmed for about $20. That's what I did so I can get in the truck if I accidentally lock the keys in it.

Will the Viper Key work for our trucks?? :dontknow:

only if you put a stock key somewhere in the truck.. the truck needs the programmed key
to send a signal out so it can start.. anti-theft to the max!! :D

So if I tape one to the inside of the column, would that work?

You need the transponder key and you have to have it programmed to the truck. A non programmed key will start the truck for about 5 seconds then it cuts off. You'll also have to have the remote programmed as well. If you had two working remotes already, I think you can program a third yourself if I read the manual correctly.

yep.. or some of the members who do remote start have actually
taped/glued a key into the dash :D  i think the key has to be about
10 ft away max. for the truck to start.. :dontknow: :D

I was in the same situation. Except I almost needed the extra key. Was out of town and lost my keys in a small town and found them the next day in a snow bank. The whole deal is long story. If you guys want to read a badly written long story no problem:) Lots of events occured leading up to the lost keys. I got another key made and keyfob done for $60.50. It was weird. I got the keys and stuff done but needed other minor work done. It took over two months to have the work done. My work schedule and parts coming in, not calling me when the parts arrived. Long story. But I only paid for the key stuff and think it run me that much. You can also give them your vin # over the phone and they can do the work.

I saw that Hot Ram had Viper key mod written in his signature and PM him. This is what he said:

That is where you take the chip out of the truck key and epoxy it inside the steering column (otherwise it won't start)and use a Viper car key to start your truck. They were available on e-bay in red, blue, and gray.Just have the key code from your truck and the key and any dealer can have it cut to work.Should be some info here if you use the search function, but not sure.

I think I am going to try this instead of going nuts on a second key, unless Robert can cut me a good deal and he can do it on the left coast.

So in theory TheMoparConnection can create me another key with just my VIN?:dontknow:
Yep. I do believe you can. For sure on the keyfob. It has been a while but my dealer cut the key for me right there. But the transponder in the key and keyfob can be done over the phone, and have someone local cut the key for you.

Found the reciept and it shows $26 for the key and $35.50 for the transmitter.

So someone could check eBay for a local SRT10, get the VIN #, have the key made and then drive off for a night of joy riding without a problem? Remind me to NEVER list my VIN.. ANYWHERE!

 If you look at it that way. When I ordered my flash from DC they need the vin # and then Tony started telling me about the work that has been done to it. Kinda scary. I found out in high school there is a test you take that is actually a pre-advab:dontknow: for the military. They can really dig up scary shit on you.

i lost one set of keys ,i couldnt just get them replaced, the dealer said they needed the truck in order to program it correctly, cost me 180.00 and it took them 20 minutes

I guess living in a small town has its advantages sometimes for me.

The truck did stay there to have the door weatherstripping replaced while the key stuff was being done.

Another scary thing around here is calling a locksmith when you lock you keys in the car. They have not even asked me for ID or registration to the vehicle before.
