Okay here is the run down. I am in Chattanooga, TN the guy that wants to buy the truck in Hobbs New Mexico. From the sounds of it does not have the time to make it out here to look at the truck. But he does want it.

He has heard the horror stories of buying over the internet, as I have heard of the horror stories of selling over the internet.

What is the best way for him to be sure that what I have taken pictures of is what he is getting? That I am not changing the wheels or pulling off the super charger etc....

What is the best way to protect my self on getting paid and the truck getting returned because “IT SMELLS FUNNY" or something and wind up in court? (No my truck doesn’t smell funny) LOL

In other words how do we both protect ourselves from feeling uncomfortable with the transaction?

This guy seems very legit we talked last night and want to make sure that both parties feel safe in making the transaction.

You guys know that I would never try to screw anyone but he doesn’t know me from Adam. So any advice would be great. Thanks Guys...

I have a hard time believing that someone is going to spend thousands of dollars on something they have not seen in person. I personally deal with fraud cases all the time and those crooks are really good about scamming people. Unless the Guy flys down to personally see the truck and hands you a legit cashiers check I wouldn't do the deal. In my own opinion it Sounds fraudulent . But I could always be wrong.

cashier's checks are easy to fraud... i wouldn't accept one...

here's what i would do:
contact a shipping company and get a quote to and from HIS location.
take a $1,000 non refundable deposit (or however much shipping is both ways, in the event he doesn't like the truck)
YOU keep the title with you.
YOU contact his bank, and tell them you are sending a truck to their bank, and if the buyer accepts, he will wire you the money right then and there to your bank. (if it's a weekday, you should see it in under 30 mins, as anything over 10k has to go through the federal reserve)
if he doesn't accept, the truck gets sent home.
if he does accept, YOU overnight the title to him. should be about $20 for that.

also, you take pictures of the truck being loaded, and/or if he has face time or something similar, he can watch it in "real time"...

done...

that's what i'd do...

otherwise you can go through ebay, set a buy-it-now, and let him buy it, but you'll lose a few k for fees, and there's a chance someone else might buy it the split second before he does....he'll still have to hire his own shipping co., or you could do it for him and charge him...

cashiers checks are easy fraud. That's why you take the check to your bank with the buyer. Your bank will be able to tell if its fraudulent.

only after it physically clears their bank.

i can write you a check at your bank, your bank can verify the funds (which have to be there in the first place, or you can't get a cashier's check, anyway), then as soon as we walk out the door i can cancel my check... unbeknownst to you...

now you've signed the title to me, i have your car, and in 10 days after it goes through the federal reserve, YOU don't have your money and YOUR bank will come after YOU for it...

you may clear it up with me... you may not...

take it as friendly advice, mark...

I got it danny poo. I was thinking maybe their was a contract (more then just a bill of sale) and a 3rd party that would handle the legal end of the deal.

No think we got it worked out. I will let you know.

oh and dan thank you for your vast knowledge and great input on this. LOL

i didn't say it would work... or even if it was a good idea...

i just said that's what i'd do...

but it's ok to thank me:p

and please note: the toolbox is taking a break from the truck:aetsch:
