Need advice on lowering kits

In the past I have had some reports of "bump steer" after the installation
of a SRT RC and QC lowering kit. The 06 models seem to be the most severe.
When hitting a bump at high speeds with one wheel the truck will pull to one side. I know the current kits do not have a "drop spindle" to correct the tie rod angle when lowering the car. Companys that do supply a drop spindle (Mc Gaughys) only supply it for the Hemi trucks.

Have any of you had this problem? Is it only prevelent to the 06's?
I wonder if it would be worthwhile to have a company make a kit that includes this?

While I have not experienced any severe bump steer in my lowered 04 RC, you can modify a late model Mustang bump steer kit to work on our trucks.

I see more evident and important problems in the maladjustment of the sway bars caused by lowering and unsuitable shock choice. - john
 
Nope didnt replace the spindle however I did add helper airbags in the rear for towing but the kit is setup for high speed customs and I have had the truck to 150 mph without feeling uncomfortable at all!!!!!:D
 
Stuttle is right, thats what I done is took a mustang kit and modified it too work,

I am talking to a few machinist around the house about making one, but most are closed till the new year.

But yes on all the lowering kits I have seen so far the tie rods are at too severe an angle.
 
For some reason my Hemi had HORRIBLE bump steer which was worsened when I installed a hotchkis TVS system. I have not experience bump steer to anywhere near the degree in my SRT.

Do you have the 2/4 drop?

I am thinking this would be a good option to have a Drop-Spindle... But, I am afraid it would be too expensive for such a small niche. :dontknow:
 
I have Boomer's kit and have not noticed any ill effects really. I assume my tie rod ends and sway bar angle are screwed up somewhat, but so far I haven't noticed any issues. I will say though that if I'm rounding a corner at high speed (like on an Interstate) and hit a bump with one of the front tires the truck does walk to the outside of the curve, pretty noticably...certainly enough to get your attention.
 
Only issue I had was the driveshaft rubbing the rubber exhaust hanger!

My 06 comes stock with bump steer. It's much more noticeable stock (my 05 was stock as well) 06, but on the stock suspension, it's not bad enough to cause me to do any machine work and get it fixed.

I've been considering Boomer's 1/2 or mid-level drop (whatever it's called) for my 06 QC. This has been a concern of mind and I appreciate your post....

So yes, I have that problem on my stock 06 QC, but I've had worse on other non-SRT vehicles, but they did not go 150mph either.....
 
Ok could someone get me a pic of thier lowered suspension front end, actually of the tie rod angle?
then I will post a pic of the way I did mine and it should give some help.
 
My stock '04 was downright dangerous, putting me into the next lane while at speed, loaded in a turn, and hitting a bump or pothole. I had posted this even before buying one, a scary test drive showed me and the salesman that. I believe the prob was the 1/4" of clearance Dodge left after dropping the SRT.
I now have DJM lower control arms for aover a 2" front drop. But the stock shocks and springs won't work, and I'm on my own for this unique application. There may be a little bump steer now that I will address, but its much more stable than when it was stock.
