need advice on n.o.s system

got a 05 qc i dont have any engine mods done,can i run a N.O.S. system without damageing the motor? if so how do i go about doing that. thanks.
 
Hey brat,

Do a search on Nitrous. When I did, I came up with way too many links...

The Zex website has a truck package for nitrous.

Depends how much you use it and how high of jets you use. I doubt you will damage the motor but your transmission is the weak link. You might want to look into upgrading the bands and some other tweaks to the transmission.

There is a lot of info on both in the forum.

Man I have never installed a NOS system on any vehicle before I did my truck. The ZEX could not be a simpler install and the SOTP performace with only a 55 shot is impresssive! 3 things you need to look out for in order to be "safe" when running NOS is #1 Timing- from what I gather our stock timing curve is good for up to a 150 shot max! Now if you were running a performance tune w/ increased timing you would want to pull timing out before hitting the spray. #2 installing cooler spark plugs and re-gapping to .30 or .35. #3 run a minimum of 93 octane when sprayying....but 105+ is even more safe!

The Zex truck system comes w/ jets from 55-75-100-125 HP shots. Staying at a 55-75 shot on a stock QC would probably be conservative/safe. You could probably get away w/ a 100 if you wanted. I am no rear end expert but I'd think your tranny would hold up ok since the QC PCM flash makes it shift real firm and they have no trouble w/ that.

Let me know if you have any more questions. I did research for 2 months before deciding on which kit/company to order from. I'll be posting pics of the install when I go to the track and get some quarter mile times as well.

there are several things you need to have a complete 100% nitrous system for your truck that dont come in the pre=package kits.
the off the self stuff is just to get your feet wet, but there are dangers to just using what comes in the kit.
they come with cheesy toggle switches, and no exact application instructions or the correct length lines for the SRT to plumb it with
-the kits come with a tps or wot switch. you dont want to spray in first gear, or you need to manuely spray it, thats a PIA. also this method doesnt provide for over rev from a missed shift or tire spin. an over rev-hitting the rev limiter while spraying can be very very bad.
to eliminate that, and spray after first gear only at WOT starting at a programed rpm, and ending at a programmed rpm , you need a programable window switch.
- the kits dont include a pressure gauge for the bottle, so you dont know when you low, or at what pressure. or a purge kit.
it all depends what you want from a system and how accurate, and convient you want it to be as well as a safety precautions.
since we have been installing NOS on the SRT's we have found that the ZEX system is good, the solenoids from NX are more accurate, durable and a 1/3 of the weight of the other companies'.
we now have a complete bolt on kit that includes the everything from a remote bottle opener, bottle heater and maintainer, programable window/tps/rpm controller that has a first gear lockout -you program what rpm you want the nos to kick in and what rpm to turn off-and can control 2 stages of nitrous if so desired to upgrade later, all the corect length lines, wires, complete instructions, and pictures of the install for your exact application. a direct bolt on kit for the SRT.
we will have a price on the complete package etc, next week when i get back from california.

thanks guys thats a lot of info to think about,if i do decide to go nos i will go with one from Boomer,sounds like he has everything i would need,hopefully the price wont be too bad on c.c. i knew that what ever info i would need you guys would have the answers,again thanks alot.

Gary....

Great post...the only thing that I would say is that for guys thinking of going 100 hp or more...a supplemental fuel system is needed....ie a wet shot.....

OH YEAH-good point, i forgot, our system is a wet system! and we do offer a supplemental fuel system with timing controller for those wanting MORE than a 100 shot

brushed finished,iam doing the inside of the truck with a billet look,thanks boomer.
 
Boomer quick Q, where will the nitrous be sprayin? In the intake duct or we drilling in to the intake manifold? Or is it the throttle body?

the intake duct before the throttle body, and or we make a TB spacer with a NOS fitting in it. our new Billet TB (6 weeks out) will also have a NOS port also

Not much...wEll what happened is the there is this guy in ma hood with a new SS pickup. I usually beat the crap out of these with out a sweat. However this guy has a SC or somethin cuz i just heard a whine and he took off and left me bad.. So i been busy doing side jobs and the PPL thing tryin get some money for some mods..I think i want to do NOS for a while , i cant stand a chevy beatn me.

yes, i use predominatly NX parts, they have been doing it so long, that they have everything down to a science. we still use other componets if they are better, and some of our own also., we combined a variatable plethoray of parts to make a complete bolt on kit, with even pictures of what wires go where.
