Ok and the problems start...while driving on the highway on the way home from work a little bit ago, i noticed the speedometer bouncing from 0-20-60-30-0 for a mile or so and then dropped to zero and hasnt moved. I was going around 80. ALL other gauges are perfect, voltage good, temp good, truck didnt show any other symptoms of anything else being wrong...UNTIL when i was just about home, i went to downshit from 6th to 5th and it just grinds, i couldnt get it into gear...WTF! 1,2,3,4,& 6 are fine while driving...i believe i just lost 5th! How is that possible? HOWEVER...when i came to a stop, i pushed in the clutch while not moving and i could get it in all gears...:-O ?? HELP PLEASE ANY IDEAS?!

What's the odds they go out within 30 mins of eachother? Lol! The speedo sensor can wait, I will bleed the clutch tomorrow and let you know. Thanks for the help!!

Sounds like your speed sensor is out sir.

Not a 6 speed guy so no idea on the second part.

Ok well you guys are gonna get a kick outta this one, it wasnt 5th i lost, it was going all the way to reverse, the reverse block is out...whatever its called, so it allows me to attempt to shift into reverse while going 80mph...no good, is THIS linked to that sensor by chance, as well as the MPG read out because thats not updating at all since i cleared it out, it stays at 0.0? What ALL does that sensor control...or is it ONLY just for the speedo?

Hahaha what the hell bro but I sure your arnt the firsts or last to do that just be glad you didn't damage anything

First Jack posts this:
Hw long has alcohol been a problem for you????
I thought, "That's not a nice thing to say".

Then mikeH posts this:

And I thought, "Wow, Jack was right!" :D

Reverse lockout isn't a big deal!! I haven't had it in over 2 years and its very rare for me to find reverse instead of fifth, lol.
It has nothing to do with your speed sensor though. Sensor in rear end is cheap. Reverse lockout solonoids are over $150 ;)

so then can i at least assume that the speed sensor is what regulates the MPG read-out? otherwise i have 3 UNRELATED issues that happened within 20-30 minutes of driving...:-( lol

Yes mpg is based off distance, speed, and injector pulse. So yes, your speed sensor is not giving readout to PCM for mpg calculations.

but wait! ...

Well I am lead to believe that they are indeed linked in some way...because i drive the truck today and for some reason everything worked perfect again...the reverse block is back and the speedometer is fine! (must be that voodoo i did to the truck :chain:) lol

what the heck is going on with my truck??

You haven't washed you engine bay recently have you?

well not necessarily the engine bay but i just washed the truck the day it happened...did i spray water somewhere i wasnt supposed to? uh oh

OK, this is a bit of a reach....

Check your PCM.

I've seen som pretty weird things since 2005. Corrosion on the connectors, water in the connectors and even a cracked case or two (might have to remove the PCM to see that last one)

It's just a thought, take it for what its worth, not much

Vj

Remember, it is a bit of a reach

I would imagine since the truck shows no ground speed the reverse lockout is in its open state. Once it sees ground speed I would suspect then it locks it out. Hence why when the speedo works, the lockout works.
