need help asap tb install

Doing the x metal tb install and the rod will not go through the tb on the tps side. It looks like there is a lip from the bearing.....like it wasnt installed properly or something. I am stuck at a friends house. Please help a brother out.

The rod will not insert from either side of the tb tps side.

Not that I know of. Is there some sort of trick to getting the bearing centered? I am thinking thats the problem........not a TB maching problem. But I am not sure. The rod will not pass through that bearing from either side of it.

Did you make sure the rod is stripped of paint,And or other objects?
 
These are the only numbers I have for Gary:

(812) 477-1740

heat the bearing, freeze the rod...that should give you just enough clearance...you can use a heat gun (I used my wife's hair dryer) and put the rod in the freezer...I did the Roe, but that is what his instructions said...

Here is my instructions from Roe. Maybe the bearing section will help!

I would think that the bearing should not be able to move!!

Alright got it done. Thank you everybody that posted and thank you Marc, Stingray and Derek for the phone calls. With their combined help and my friend Tom we got it to work.

The bearing was not installed/aligned properly so the rod would not go through at all. With some sanding, buffing, rubbing, cussing and a grinder:eek: ...... NOT...... we got it in. :rock: Everything else went according to plan, got her put back together and she started up just fine. Pedal feels a little firmer and the throttle response seems much better. Have not drove her yet as we are getting ready to leave his house and I wanted to reply back to you all. Tom deserves some free food for all his help.

Derek thanks for you extra instructions.....they were very helpful as I am an idiot!! I will post some pics later as we are too hungry now.

Worth every penny!:burnout: Now the why....... Derek mentioned before that the throttle doesnt have that jerky motion at low speed anymore. My truck in first gear through parking lots or any low speed situation was really jerky. The combination of 4.88 gears, no cats, and DC flash really puts the torque to the rear wheels. Driving with the TB installed smoothed all that out. Pedal feels a little firmer and very responsive. I only got one run at full throttle up to 70 mph and the truck did feel like it pulled harder.......then I hit rain all the way home.

Other observations at the install. Derek was correct, pay attention to the spring and tps on how they look before you take it apart. When putting it back together its easy to get confused. I took pics like Derek suggested.

The 4 blade screws that Gary says you need to file to get off. Mine were not "peaned" at all. There was no mushroom head, flattened head or any marks at all. I took the screws out very slowly with that back en forth motion. When they were out there was no damage to the screw at all. They could have been reused but I did not since Gary provided new ones.

Like Derek I took off my k & N tube for the install. Good thing I remembered how to take off the connector MAF sensor thats in the tube as I remember they break easily.

In the end, it all came together and works perfectly and am very happy. When the next guy needs help on this install feel free to contact me. Oh and lastly, install time was supposed to be what, under an hour..................no way dudes. It took us over 3 hours. My freind Tom and I didnt rush anything and took our time with each step. With no problems I would imagine an average guy could install in 90 minutes or so.
