okay here is the deal. my work truck o6 gmc gasser. i left the key on with the lights on killed the battery. no big deal i will jump it tomorow . well went to jump it hooked everything up right. go to crank it and i hear an electrical pop?? it will not do anything now while the cables are hooked up its dead i checked the obvious like fuses and what not. any other ideas i have to go to work in the am thanks guys

Dom, disconnect negative terminal...then check all of the connection to the positive terminal very carefully...you may find that you have burned one of the connections right at the positive terminal...

Most of the time these days we are told to connect the the positive terminal first then go to a negative ground on the frame rather than the negative terminal...but you probably did that...

i did not even connect the cables to the battery i connected them to the designated spots to jump the truck ill go look at again

hey roy bridgette was elected the class president of the student body and is working at the hospital already......18 credit hrs last semester while maintaining a 4.0 gpa . she is also on the presidential honor roll:D

Make sure the cables are making good connection...let it sit there and charge awhile. When they're that dead, they have to charge for a few minutes before they'll do anything. How old is the battery? If it's old, it might not have survived the ordeal...

dom under the hood you should have a different fuse box, in there there are a couple very large fuses, now jsut looking at them, they look to be fine, but get a test light and check them, alot of times you will find them blown.

other than that, cant think of anything unless you have a loose connection some were?

Do GM's have a (separate) starter solenoid that flakes out like Fords do? :dontknow:
No . it is on the starter

i checked the fuses under the hood .....i m not exactly where the pop came from i was in the truck

My bet is the pop came from a loose connection on the cable(s). make sure they're tight and making a good connection and try it again.

Do ya think it would have blown? ..... If all the connections are tight, it could be the solenoid on the starter. It popped WHEN YOU TURNED THE KEY to start the truck, right?

if your battery has a dead cell, it will not take a jump start whatever you do..... take it out & have it load tested @ a local tire/battery place.

if that's not it, you need a volt meter & start from the battery & test on back, check your connections on your starter & the starter itself.....

don't know much about GM's, but aren't they (or use to be) a positive ground system compare to negative ground like mopars/fords, did you hook up your jumper cables right ?

good luck.

Say hello to her for me and give her a pat on the butt for me!

All of my students do well in life...or they end up in jail.

She should be very proud...convince her to stay in school and get that BSN...then she will be supporting you in the manner that all good men should be treated!
