Well I finally made it home at about 1:30 a.m. unloaded and went to bed. I got up this morning to take my truck to the car wash and noticed some squeaking so I shut my truck off. I then crawled under my truck and checked the crank bolt......HAND TIGHT. I had just had my oil changed 2 weeks ago and asked them to check the torque on the bolt. They said it would cost me $20 to check and advise. They then told me it was loose and retightened. Here is my question, should I call my dealership and hold them responsible for the loose bolt? I really don't know how they could put 200 lbs of torque on a bolt that they rounded the head on. Any suggestions on what I should do?????? Thanks alot!!!!!!!

They didnt put loctite on it:mad:

they told ya the price for the service & you agreed.

ya pay them????

then its their baby. if they checked it, to me seems like a check of the crank snout & inside bore of the damper should have been included. would mean more possible money in their pocket if there was crank/damper damage.
i would drop a dime to them for sure.

rounded bolt????

take some photos if possible

Well, Thats a real tough situation. You asked them to tighten it, thats what they did. (we hope). Yes they should have known better, but they did what you asked them too. Call and talk to the service manager.

imo the thing came loose on its own 2 times that should be dodges problem. The truck has less than 14k on it. I'm really surprised there is no a recall on it

I agree 100% a bolt coming loose on a $20K+ engine is complete bullshit. But you cannot hold the service department responsible for it.

why can't ya hold dealership/repair facility responsible????

thats part of the repair to take responsibilty for workmanship. thats why there are workmanship warranties & parts warranties.

if they did not remove the damper for a complete inspection, then the job as halfassed. drop a belt, remove finger tight bolt & damper. check it out, clean it up & ALWAYS go back with a fresh bolt.

thought someone said there is a TSB on that. might be incorrect on that one.

just my VHO:rock:

Bad-RC, can you please tell us EXACTLY what you asked the dealer to do? Then I can answer the question, I dont want to go running my mouth on something without know what took place.

there never was a TSB on this...that being said any one with a brain would come to the conclusion that "bolt was finger tight, how can we solve this,OH I KNOW,PUT SOME LOC-TITE ON IT" well most dealerships don't give a s&*T.

Some techs are so clueless its not even funny.

I told them that i had read about a crank bolt problem on the 04 models and asked them to check the tourqe and make sure it was correct and if not to correct it.

Then they should have removed it and made sure everything was ok. Thats ridiculous, the dealer is supposed to take the extra step. I would definatley call them and bitch for not putting loctite on.

What is the cause of the bolt coming loose?
I'm guessing it's something to do with engine harmonics causing the bolt to loosen. Some folks have re-torqued their bolts without the loctite and found it loose again. Those who have used loctite haven't seen the problem reoccur as far as I know. In mid '05 and the '06's have a bolt with a larger head or the whole bolt is different I think. I don't think any of them are seeing the problem.
