I have a 98 Eclipse that I have owned since new for almost ten years. I have only 29K on the clock since I have owned it. I have spent over 15K modding this car and countless hours of labor and lord knows how much blood, sweat, and tears. The car is super clean and hardly ever gets driven. About 4 years ago I had a small claim with state farm on this car to replace a damaged hatch cover from backing into a semi trailer door. No biggie right....wrong. The state farm assessor came out and looked at my car, took pictures of the entire car, and sent the claim in. My claim was honored and then my policy was canceled for that car. The claims rep told me they don't insure "Race Cars". Well the car is lowered, wheels, gauges inside, race seats with harnesses and so forth. But a race car it is not. Hell I even had extra coverage for all the mods!! Still canceled...my actual agent told me they made an example out of me since they are trying to get rid of cars like that insured with them. I still have state farm for all my stuff since they are the lowest, yes I shopped, and they have been great on all my claims except that one.
For the past four years the car has sat in my garage uninsured. I'm trying to get the car back on the road but want to do so in a fashion where I'm covered for all the modifications if the car is ever stolen or wreaked.
I've contacted grundy and hagerty and they say my car is not of collector status. Fine...its not a collector car but to me it is with all the money and time I have in it. I need stated insurance and can't find any for this car to save my life. I want the car back on the road but not at the expense of losing everything I have in it if something were to happen.
Does anyone have any advice or direction at this point. The forum for the owners of these cars don't have alot of money tied up into these cars like I do and just have generic insurance on the car and can not provide any direction. I figured I would ask on here since some of you guys and gals on here own other vehicles and possibly one of my status. Any help is appreciated...I included two pictures to show. Cheers and thanks.
