Couple of days ago, i was driving and my right front passenger wheel started smoking. It was like my caliper had seized. The other wheel was fine. After about 30mins i could drive again. Today, the drivers side front caliper seized. Showed 2 mechanics who both think its the ABS Unit.

Was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem. How much do these ABS units sell for?

The truck is an 05 QC with 30K miles on it.

Thanks for your help.

its the caliper. never heard of an abs unit causing that. although possible just not likely. Do you know noticed that it happens after a hard stop?

are you autocrossing it? if so then that would be normal. if not try this

first jack up the front of the truck. can you spin that rim easily, no. pull the fuse to the ABS, drive the truck around the block, jack up the front again, and spin the tire, is it the same? yes, the caliper piston(s) are stuck out and you may need to rebuild the caliper; no, the ABS unit may be bad.

These callipers are sealled pretty good and it does build up alot of brake dust and grime. Take them apart and clean good and make sure the pistons slide good and put back together.
