Hey guys Stinker has been awesome as usual and trying to help me find a set of pistons & rings, but all we can find are the factory .10 overs from the dealer for $1600. The block has to be bored .10 over, so I must replace the pistons in there. What I am looking for is any .10 over replacement pistons/rings. Isnt there any company that makes factory replacement pistons/rings .10 or .20 over besides the dealer??? Anyone else have any ideas? Thanks

my builder got my CP Racing pistons custom made,Im sure there's some builders that can make some, the only ones I can think of off hand that will fit the stock rod is Diamond??? for oversized ?,not sure?

Yeah,I know all about the waiting game on my engine build! LOL
yessir, but now one of the nice things about collins being connected with nascar building.............pistons now only take about 3 weeks:D

If you are just looking for cast pistons these guys have made a few over the years:D Grant Rings are in the same building also.

Turn the crank .020 and use Chevy pistons & rods...;)

OK I thought about that, but I assumed modfying the crank to accept chevy rods/pistons was costly. Whats involved exactly in modifying the crank? Any idea how much it cost to get the crank turned/modified for chevy stuff?

Wait a minute, are you joking because it cost a crap load? :)

there is a little more to it than jsut buying chevy rods and pistons, otherwise it wouldnt cost but $20 to rebuild a viper engine;)

Cost about $100 to have mine turned down....I went the Chevy route back 2 yrs ago when OEM spec forged pistons cost more than all the parts needed....may not be the best route today though it has worked great for me....20,000+ miles with no problems and uses 0 oil between changes....Tony can help you decide...

it can be done, I jsut explained it to Rob, there is a little more detail , but basically you cant use an off the shelf chevy piston, the pin location is in the wrong place.

most big builds now do use the chevy rods, edddies is using the oliver chevy rods, but the pistons are custom.

but one thing tnviper fails to tell ya too, is he got one helluva deal on the machine work:p

all it is is mathmatics, stroke, rod lenght, pin location, bore size, bearing journal size, but........it must be done correctly, builds are not that much , but having a excellent builder that knows his stuff is what determines if it will live or not.

But rob usually anymore..........i dont reply too much on this situation.
there are usually a ton of replies saying you can do this, that, those, and there are , there are a ton of different ways to rebuild this engine, and do a good job.

but what Rob is wanting is to replace the pistons, and sell the truck and it be reliable, the only prob is , the oem pistons , come with rods. so price starts going up.

the only thing I have been able to come up with is the diamonds that roe sells, I dont deal diamonds, and really even if I did, probably wouldnt here because Roe allready does, but I can tell ya , his price if with rings arent bad.

I jsut cant think of a decent way outta this really cheaply:dontknow:

maybe someone else can come up with it:D but i am at a loss, i was cleanin up the shop talkin to myself:D my dogs thougt I was nutts:p

thats the only thing I can think of bud, even if he does an el cheapo smc route, he is still looking at more than $1300 sean is asking for the pistons, I jsut cant think of a way to get out much cheaper than that:dontknow:

yeah the town car rocks, im sick of the truck already:argh: She does not stop, every i start her; i want this, i need that, when we going to the track again:argh: :D

oh btw, this might be going backwards but just how different are the rods and pistons outta the gen 2? I'm assuming they are forged from what i've heard? do you think they could work in the gen 3?

oh and guess what tony, I might have found a good machine shop/slash engine builder on the west coast. Their specialty is the chevy lsx motors. They do some real trick stuff their. Shop looks like a hospital and they have nice new machines. I'm gonna be sending my dads 72 455 motor and my 454 there for some work...i'll how they do and maybe they might get a viper block in the future.

givm a shout bro, never know:rock: didnt see know he posted;)

but remembered the rod size, oem rods are like 6.243 and sbc is 6.250

so there is "basically" your pin difference .007, but there is a few more things to consider , since you are also grinding down the crank also, you gotta take those measurements into consideration.

but not sure Ferrari, but they prob would , never checked to be honest bud:)
