Need some comments about a body job

Hi guys,
as some of you knows I got a 1968 Coronet R/T last year, barn conditions.

She went trough 2 body jobs since the first one.... well, don't wanna tell you more not to influence your opinion.

Could you please take a look at this Album? There are tons of pics

Looks to me that someone forgot to work the welding seams before the blasting. Those welds should have be worked with a grinder before the blasting...

But I have very little experience with body work.

yeah the first guy did not know what he was doing. Unless the law is different there your S.O.L he did do the work all though a very shitty job, thats about all the courts would say here, he did the work and that is all the matters here anyway to them . Happen to a buddy of mine paid 10gs and within 6months same thing paint flaking and spots bubbling up in the heat. The only thing that happen to that prick is he got a negative mark on his BBB rating and after so many they pull you BBB rating and membership, but that doesnt stop him from screwing other people. So i may be a waste in court. word of mouth however can destroy some business)IMO

I looked at your pics. Especially the ones before anything was done. If this was mine I would have never even attempted it. I did plenty of body work years back mostly repairing rusted vehicles and what I finally realized is one thing . Rust is like cancer, its become a chronic illness. You can treat it but it keeps coming back. You car was completely rusted through and through in spots that nothing could reach. Rust has to be COMPLETELY removed. Im talking at the molecular level . If you leave a few "cells" behind it will return.
Epoxy primer is good stuff to prevent corrosion from the out side from entering and it also does a great job of trapping whatever rust was left behind!

i really hate to tell the truth sometimes...

but that's terrible...it looks about like he did half of the metal work that was necessary....especially on the spot welds/solder...that needs to be full, then ground down...then prepped for paint...to start...

i wouldn't let that guy paint my lawn mower

Wow! Thats alot of work. I'd suggest using "Por 15" (sp) on the all the blasted rust under the car. It seals the rust in not letting oxygen get to the rust. It supposed to stop the rust from growing. I have a '68 SS Chevelle thats about the same condition as your car. I don't have the balls to start on it yet. I keep thinking about selling it and buying one that is finished. I know that if I restore mine it will cost alot more than buying one already to go. Anyway, good luck with your project.

I would say the first guy did a lot of work piss poor work but still a lot of work. Some guys are metal workers others use the magic of body filler to cover up poor metal work. There are not to many body shops that can restore a car in that condition. Were you paying him a fixed price or was it an hourly rate?

Most of the time i see better work from kids that do it for fun than guys that get paid for it.

I spent 7000 on realistic flame job for my 03 dodge took it to one guy that promised the world. Paint was so bad i had another body shop pick it up and just spray it back black. Contacted 5 lawyers and none of them would take the case they all said the same thing its just a matter of opinion. One guy said he would take the case but he pissed me off me more than loosing 7 grand did so i just walked away. I keep my fingers crossed that a stray bullet finds him one day.
