Alright as I posted before I have been searching for SRT-8 Magnums. I have found many and am trying to limit down my choices. I was in West Palm Beach last week and almost bought one but they changed the price on me. It was 26K on the web, but 30K once I got there. They refused to haggle (spent 3 hours there) so I test drove it and left (scared the hell out of the salesman too!)

Anyway so after driving an Magnum SRT I did some reasearch on the Magnums. I found out that they made AWD RT's. Now the RT has 340 HP and the SRT has 425 HP. That is a big difference but wouldn't a slightly modded AWD RT be faster than the SRT? Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the point to get the power to the asphalt? Just trying to see what would work best. The only thing I don't like about the RT is the cylinder deactivation. Can that be cut off???

Thanks for any info. I can't seem to get any good info from the "other site" about Magnum owners. TIA

Frank

Hey Frank, Welcome back. I'm not sure your going to be happy with anything less than a SRT just based on the looks . I have a Jeep Commander with the 5.7 MDS engine and like it. I think the SRT has traction control to keep wheel spin under control so getting power to the ground shouldn't be a problem. AWD might get the power to the ground but you don't have as much of it with the RT and AWD means more weight too. Don't you just hate it when car salesmen jack you around like that?

since it's not new, the lifetime warranty card doesn't play here (not that it would have mattered now, anyways;))...

remember though, it's not just the awd system to make it faster....

also consider the brakes, suspension, electronic nannies (TC, STA, etc.)

with a modded vehicle that's not "designed" for extra power, you may be replacing cv axles, carriers, and yokes more often...and MDS to me seems like an accident waiting to happen...plus your wheels and tires (albeit a small part of the equation) would have to be changed to make it look more menacing...

i'd stick with the SRT...more rare...probably better resale...

only reason to me in the AWD version is if you needed to get around in the snow...but that seems to be a non issue in this case...

plus, if you go with the AWD...you will never have the opportunity to do on-command hot, smoky, burnouts, either:D....

SRT...that's what i'd do...if it were me!

Thanks Big Dave. It really pissed me off, but I was mainly there to help out a family member anyway. The car was just gonna be a bonus:rock:

Viperhauler you raise a valid point I haven't thought of. All the other "stuff" that is upgraded on a SRT especially the brakes and the rear end. Does anyone know how good the traction control is???

I remember when at the Macon GTG there was a bad arse SRT Magnum that seemed to hook like a champ (high 12's).

I did find a 2008 with 549 miles in the ultra rare blue color (only 23 made). Just think that having it as a daily driver would be such a waste (that and the 07 is 10K cheaper)

Sounds like SRT (I figured you guys would persuade me) is the way to go. I just know the AWD Jeep's have no issues hooking like the 10's and was thinking along the same lines. Any other ideas?

The AWD will hinder you.... Get a SRT.

There are a lot of experts at SRTConnection Forum you can talk to.... Some of their cars are running in the low 10's (1/4mile). I can't give you the web address here, just google it. ;)

The cylinder deactivation is for cruising speeds only (hwy driving) get the SRT better handling and the looks...and interior seats!!

The AWD is different than the regular car in several ways. the ride height is different, makes it look like shit. The wheels are different to acommodate different hubs, me no likey. Get the SRT, Burn the hell out of the tires laugh your ass off.   the srt looks waaaaaaay better too.

Oh and as far as the MDS system, I have never seen or heard of a problem with it. You dont feel it go into MDS, or come out of it. its a great system if you ask me

Griff, I was thinking about that one! I remember how bad arse it looked screaming down the track:rock:

I have found one in GA and am trying to work a deal out.

I never thought there was such a difference between the SRT and RT, but you guys have pointd out alot that makes the SRT the only choice. Thanks:D

5_0_BAIT I found your car!

Don't even ask why I found this but...:slug: :D

They still make a SRT Magnum in a way.

You drive from the wrong side.

And it's got a 300 front end.

And it's not called a Magnum.

Give up?:dontknow:

Wow. I really think that is ugly!!!

I remember one of those old pimp my ride type shows.

They swapped to a 300 front clip when the Magnum first came out.

Didn't know then it was a factory prototype!!!!:D :D :D
