Ok so I just got done changing the oil and filter and a quick flush, added 8.5 qts. and then let it run for a while. Checked dipstick and added a little more to top off right around 8.75 qts. Now the thing is the angle the dipstick goes in if I turn it certain ways I get all different kinds of readings. If I put it to where I can read the wording on the top of the handle from the front of the truck it's right at max on one side and right around 3/4 max on the other side. I'm thinking it's right there but I was just wondering exactly how much oil everyone put's in there truck to dail the oil level in right. Thanks guys, Aloha.

Ok just chaecked it again, looks like it's right there. Guess the most accurate reading is having the wording on the handle to where you can read it regular from the side of the truck. Still wondering exactly how much everyone uses to top off thier truck. Seems mine uses right at 8.75 qts.

I just changed mine the other day. I put in the recomended 8.5 quarts, ran it a little bit to check for leaks and shut it off. The next day I checked the dipstick and marked it with a file. This will let me know the level. Chrysler could have done a better job on something so important, but hell, it's only a Viper motor- no biggie.

That's what I was thinking...this dipstick is hard to check. I mean, if they made it flat, or at least bright it would be so much easier. The dark parts is kinda hard to check clean oilwith but oh well. Guess it's so we don't rush through it.

I always think that it is hard for me to read and I care... I would hate to leave it in the hands of some kid at the jiffy lube to make his best guest!

Does the 05 have a "wire" type dip stick?....the 05 QC I owned had it and I never could tell the oil level....i didnt know if that wire stick was stock or aftermarket since I bought the truck used...my 06 has a regular flat stick and I have no problem reading....the 06 takes 10 QTS but the 04/05s take ~8.5 QTS..

I did a check on this when my motor was apart. The dipstick seamed too short. It only took 6 qts to reach the bottom of the windage tray. So add a filter and through the oil cooler maybe get up to 8 qts. But my dipstick won't read anything until I get at least 9, which doesn't make any sence..??? I don't want oil splashing up on the crank.
