What kind of job do you do?

I work with, and know a lot of contract engineers. As long as you are willing to travel to where the jobs are, you will never be without a job. If you plan on wanting to stay in one place you are screwed.

As Roy stated im a tower guy, I build cell phone towers and there sites. Unfor for me im staying put location wise due to im working on my BA in business and have about 8 or 9 classes left, its been a long 2 night classes per semester struggle but da**it im finishing.

It depends on the work in your area(50 miles).
What type of work do you do?
Are you in a Union(if how does it send you out seniority/list)?
All of this matters.

I too beleive this is a good time to buy a home.
Renting is throwing money AWAY!!!

No union up here for us saddly, the cellular phone companies would sh*t if that happened. Theyd fight us all the way.

RESEARCH the area you are planning on buying a house in. Right now may be a good time to buy but next year may be even better. The housing market is still going down in areas.

Rule of thumb is to have at LEAST 6 months worth of expenses saved (utilities, car/truck payment, food, rent, etc) before sticking your neck out. Doesnt matter whether you work for yourself or for someone else...you can be out of work either way in the future. I do small business consulting (I'm self employed CPA) and this is what I tell any client thinking of going into business. Most businesses (and personal) financial failures result from not enough capital (cash)...

Great idea, but in reality its hard to do. Anytime it seems i have money saved something breaks, and then here comes my mother asking for money because she cannot afford to pay her bills that she keeps growing and growing. I have helped her so much that its sad how much money ive gone through. I love her and shes my mother but enough is enough. I need to do for me eventually and I fear if i continue on this current path ill never have anything besides my truck. Do you kinda see why i not only need out but want out. I could probably do 2 or 3 months but 6 would be pushing it for me because id just throw it on my own bills to pay them off. Plus i didnt say this but my gf is really pushing mentally to get our own/marriage ect. Yet she dont make that much money, kinda funny when i think about it hmmm.

Mike is a tower guy...will do anything way up in the air....crazy if you ask me!

I don't know what he is doing right now...but he should be trying to hold on to the cute girl he brought over to my house first and foremost, secondly, he should work hard to finish school and consider going on (he is super smart), and thirdly he should put the wing back on his truck because most of us think he is stupid because he took the wing off.:elefant: :elefant: :elefant: :elefant:

Holding on best i can Roy and i agree with you on the saving but like my previous answer theres a lot of pressure to get my life going not only from myself but others. I really dont care to much about the others opinions and dont let it influence me to much but of course they do aid in decisions (aka the gf). School will get done no worry about that, i fight at work all the time about going and i win and will continue to lol:D . As for the wing.......the dreaded wing, i just cant its just not right, dont worry though when you feel the need to scrap that thing off your truck ill give you a hand:elefant: If i can get something cooking at work i may just be giving you a call if i decide to buy something, to get your advice on the monetary portion of the transaction because when it comes to money you have got to be one of the most informative and wise people i have ever met:rock:

thanks so far guys, its really giving some good information and thoughts.:D

Also did anyone ever find it funny that banks can charge so much intrest that even with a good rate on your home if you spend lets say 300000 for 30yr fixed by the time you finish paying you have spend around a million for that house if you say all 30 years:mad: I really really hate greedy banks! Go figure no gov intervention here, kinda like doctors and hospitals hmm really boggles the mind. And they wonder why so many people live pay check to pay check struggling along just to have simple expectations of a good life.:dontknow:
