i was up late last night prowling the corvette forum and had an epiphany. this goes out to all you guys with fab skills. could we not remove the ducts that route air from lower fascia to front brakes. and form an air intake similar to a corvette vararam cold air intake drawing the air from that lower fascia. is it possible? would there be any advantage of our awesome stock system? thoughts please.

one way to find out for sure................go for it. :congrats:  :congrats:

The stock setup actually works off the same prencipal... only it draws cool air in from the grill, instead of hot air close to the pavement. ;)

i could see how that would be a problem. my k&n sounds like darth vader. the vararam people i guess worked on the weather issue. this from the vararam site
-Water troughs to help dissipate water
-Falling rain water will not effect this system
-All new VR race filter
-VR race filter repels water
just an idea. wonder what it would do for 1/4 times. or would it be similar in affect to a volant.

it is a high pressure area and would help. was going to make one myself but said the hell with it.

I still can't undertand why I haven't seen anyone (yet) take advantage of the opening in the hood scoop to gather into a filtered intake.....

D

i just wanted put the idea out there. i dont have the time, ability, or patience to build such a thing, but i would buy one if someone made it:D
maybe get tnviper to extend the intake for his dual airbox to draw air from from the lower fascia. how bout it larry? of course after you test yours out at the track.

the closest thing i have seen to taking advantage of the hood scoop is the cone filter atop a roe. maybe an enclosure for that filter made from aluminum with some dense foam to "seal" to under side of hood?

because it is not high pressure air

mopar ram air intake like on my truck, uses functional hood scoop to divert cold air to intake, around 900 instaled.this intake is part of the one lap of america package offered by mopar, also includes camshaft, computer, and mopar headers, all designed for our trucks it yeilds 80 ponies,I however only have the ram air intake............$$$$:D

there are also 3inch holes at the bottom also I cut out a hole in the bottom of the air box and ran a tube down through the hole and use cheese cloth wrapped around from keeing shit and water from goin up. made a big differance, but I have an s/c now.

pulling air from the fenders has yielded IAT temps of 3-4 degrees above the outside temps at hwy speeds.......this is 6-7 degrees cooler than the Roe cone filter.....I am still experimenting with my homemade CAI....I thought about running a duct to the front grill or maybe down the bottom....I am going to do this on just one side at first to see if there is any effect on the IAT temp...just need the time..

DUH volant ,,,but i did not see a big diff from the k/n i had and the jbm i have now ,,i have had all three on my sled ,,,really no diff just a personal choice ,,for me i have to admit that the volant was more louder than any of the others ,,i mean that when under hard petal mashing i could really hear the volant growl more ,,,but justins looks so damn much better ,,when combined with hard radiator pipes

i would like to see one that hooks to the hood scoop opening and split into two ways directing the air over the headers and or exhaust manifolds ,,,mmm now i got myself thinking on a project
