so are the K/n and the rest .except justins but only the tube is metal and 3 sided box ..show me one that is made out of complete metal

DUH ,,bet your homemade one is not all metal ,,,plus metal gets hot under hood plastic does not tranfer heat as much ,,,

actually only the boot is rubber everything else is metal i had a volant and they are cheap junk period

I was told(by a K&N rep) that the plastic CAI create cooler intake air temps because the plastic acts like an insulator to keep intake air cooler and they don't conduct heat like the metal ones do which would warm up intake air temps that would cause a slight drop in power. If you check the K&N site and compare the two intakes theres a couple HP difference and the plastic one is always slightly higher.

i agree. had several hours of smoothin castin flash & very rough edges in the air flow area. IAC port was over half way closed off. pain in the butt to check the oil. along with several other neg.
just put Justin's CAI/CC set up on this week. looks friggin great, red wrinkle of course, can see the engine better, check the oil easier.

I still can't undertand why I haven't seen anyone (yet) take advantage of the opening in the hood scoop to gather into a filtered intake.....

D

That's because the "scoop" in the hood dosn't intake air.... it's a heat extractor. (something about the air flow and aerodynamics :dontknow: ) Hooking up a "tunnel ram" (like the Volant) does nothing whatsoever. It only increases the ambient temps in the engine bay.

had a volant had a k/n got a jbm ,,dynoed twice once with volant once with jbm numbers stayed the same it is cosmetic either way ,,
