I set a new best time for myself at Famoso (but not better than Sacramento). I tried 18.5 lbs of air in the M&H 390-40-17 Drag Radials. Run #1: 1.725 60', 7.895 @ 87.34 mph in the 1/8th, 12.321 @ 111.89 mph in the 1/4 mile. Run #2: 1.704 60' (not enough rpm and had a slight bog, good 60' but the heavy flywheel really kills time) 7.899 @ 86.54 mph 1/8, 12.362 @ 110.91 mph. Run # 3: 1.716 60', 7.864 @ 87.42 mph 1/8, 12.279 @ 112.42 mph ( my new Famoso Record) . Run # 4: 1.718 60', 7.944 @86.77 mph 1/8, 12.381 @ 112.06 mph.
Each of the runs was leaving at about 4,000 rpm except Run #3 when I tried about 4300 and got a slight amount of wheel-spin and that turned out to be the best run. I really feel if I can go back to the aluminum flywheel I will recapture my lost 2 tenths!
Thanks to John from M&H for all the attention and help.  :congrats:

dang...I cant believe thats on a stock motor.

nice driving!

No Nitrous.....staying NA for now....maybe in the future a full rebuild with 11 to 1 compression, Striker heads and a big cam.:D

Just found out that the Air Density at Famoso was at 2800 on Saturday. Does anybody have the link to the chart that adjusts ET for Air Density? Can anybody find the Air Density for Sacramento on Jan 17, 2009?

nice times, here is a link to the DA calculator look around on that site and you should be able to find the DA for SAC on jan 17th as well
http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-altitude-calculator.php

looks like the DA at SAC on the 17th of jan was about 320-390ft, and they've got 1200ft for famosa on feb 28th

Thanks...I found a link to drag times. These are the results..Sacramento 1-17-09 at 3PM DA=319 ft. Actual time 12.024@ 112.58, corrected time [email protected]. So that was a good day. Famoso raceway 2-28-09 at 3PM DA 1709 ft. Actual time 12.279 @ 112.42, corrected time 12.043 @ 114.671. Maybe the flywheel is not hurting me as much as I thought....What do you guys think? Thanks again ARRESTmeRed:rock:

How much heavier is the flywheel than the stock one?

Its steel , so its probably about the same weight as the stocker. I was using a Fidanza Aluminum flywheel and single disc Centerforce clutch when I turned the 12.024 @ 112.58 in Sacramento on 1-17-09. I now have a McLeod Twin disc clutch.

no problem man, had it saved in my favs. i'd try to flywheel at SAC again before i switched it out since you did get a personal best at famosa with the heavy flywheel. i think most of it is the elevation diff between SAC and famosa

Very Nice TM!! You are running .456's right? what suspension and are you running cal tracs? I have the same tires as you w/ xmetal lowering kit and caltracs best i could get was 1.84 60....I tried to launch at 5500 RPM but I blew the spiders and sides:dontknow:

I think the flywheel is not heavy enough, the idea is to store the torque (energy).
If you had a flywheel that was about twice as heavey and launced hard you would get the real effect a truely heavy flyweel has to offer, but, you would need larger tires, a driveshaft and rear end that would handle the load.

We used really heavey (75lb) in the camero Pro Stock in the 70's ( aluminum 427 powered) and the launces were unreal and each gear change was like another launch, tried tourqueflight, turbo 400, clutchflife( no converter, clutch and flywheel) and he best was with a Muncie and a 75 lb flywheel.

Ran a 35 lb Wilcap in my 41 ford with a built 283 with a saganaw 3 speed, the second gear shift would always torque stand and jump about 3 car lengths that is were the flywheel (stored energy)won the race, but very hard on driveshafts, u joints, axles and spiders.

Great runs Jerry:congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :D

Keep working with it and I believe you will see the results you are looking for.

Yes....4.56 gears, Cal Tracs and QA1 adjustable shocks from JMB. Front shocks set at 2 clicks (soft) and rear shocks set at 7 clicks (firm) according to the recomendations from Justin. With the Fidanza flywheel and 3500 RPM launch (in Sacramento) I had a 1.650 60'. Launch at Famoso was between 4000 and 4250 RPM and 60' in the 1.70-1.72 range with little to no wheelspin.
The new design M&H 390-40-17 is the secret. How old are your M&H's?
