New Blu-Ray Player...

I have a question? With a projection onto a wall or whatever, is it really still HD once it hits the wall? I wouldnt think so...due to dust etc in the air..and its HD is being projected through the air? Dont know...just always curious as to how that works....as compared to an HD plasma or LCD flat panel TV. Thanks....

1080p is still 1080p whether it's rear or front projection lcd or plasma... my current projector is 720p native and the screen is 134' corner to corner k... if you get close enough to the screen you can see each pixel <which is harder to do on smaller screens>...the dust or any other air contaminants have no impact<atleast none visible to my eyes>

front projection p4wnz... the only downside is dedicated space and good light control....

so the combo hd-dvd/bluray players is the safe bet? 1000 bucks?

I'd say by next year HD DVD will be obsolete and Bluray players will eventually be able to handle both formats.

Get a blu-ray and be done with it if you have not gotten one yet.

we (warnerbros), universal, sony, etc are all backing blue ray now. The only one left backing hd-dvd is paramount. but they will change I'm sure!

get a playstation3. they are cheaper than a blue ray player and comes with one built in.

PS3 does have one, agreed. The PS3 just does not have many options for a BR player. For the average joe, its fine. For the tech heads who want every bell and whistle, you still need to pay $3-400 for a decent player.

hows this for a bell and whistle for the PS3.....it has a hard drive to store your movies, internet access, ability to play games....ability to store music and use it as a jukebox...................i dont know what other bells and whistles you are looking for.

PS3 is a great buy IMO.. But as a Blu-ray player it is limited to just playing the movies and does not have advanced features that proprietary actual players do. Plus there have been mentions os freeze ups and software upgrade issues. Something about version 1.5 if I recall. They may have resolved it by now but when they try to cram so much into one unit, there are always issues.

Dont get me wrong... PS3 is heading my way as well... Just torn between that and Xbox just due to Halo3

Our developers here at work use PS3's to make the special features so if they are developing on PS3, then I'm not sure what features you're looking for that are on a standard player.

I'm aboot as techhead as anyone on this board.. 3-400$$ won't even buy a decent dvd player... the denon 5910 is one of the nicest ones around and it's 2K+.... :| with that said... if you're going to be an early adopter don't buy all the bells and whistles... just get into the game...

burr brown this... 24/96 TRUE hd blah blah blah... :p wait for the tech to settle before all the bells n whistles... gadget head or not... it's just common sense... especially with the fast diminshing value of technical gadgets...

From what I understand, the PS3 can download updated programs to keep up with the latest and gratest blue ray players. I think it works just fine with my blue ray movies...I love it.:rock::rock::rock:

I also enjoy watching it on my Panasonic 42" plasma with my panasonic surround sound.:dontknow:

Totally agree  ...I have a 102" and the picture quality is better than my 42" Sony LCD. Of course which projector and screen you use makes all the difference.
