New California Laws effective 7/1/07
New Driving Fines for 2007

1. Carpool lane - 1st time $1068.50 starting
7/1/07 (The $271 posted
on the highway is old). Don't do it again because 2nd time is going to be
double. 3rd time triple, and 4th time license suspended.

2. Incorrect lane change - $380. Don't cross the lane on solid lines or intersections.

3. Block intersection - $485

4. Driving on the shoulder - $450

5. Cell phone use in the construction zone. - Double fine as of
07/01/07.
Cell phone use must be "hands free" while driving.

6. Passengers over 18 not in their seatbelts - both passengers and drivers get tickets .

7. Speeders can only drive 3 miles above the limit.

8. DUI = JAIL (Stays on your driving record for 10 years!)

9. As of
07/01/07 cell phone use must be "hands free" while driving.
Ticket is $285. They will be looking for this like crazy - easy money for police department.

Wow!! These stiffer fines will definitely have people thinking about how they drive!
I have no problem with any of these, with the exception of the 3 mph rule. :D

Definitely need to put some of these in the law books in Florida!!!!

Police have to obey the same cell phone laws too, I would imagine they would have a hard time enforcing them. I have seen cops numerous times on the cell phones hauling ass down the freeway.

1: I can live with that. Signs make it clear when you can and when you can't drive in that lane. And motorcycles are still cool in all lanes.

2: Meh. I'm sure nobody pulls this crap on purpose though.

3: I'm still trying to figure this one out. Traffic is moving, you can go. Traffic stops, you can't. If traffic stops and you are suddenly stuck in the intersection, what do you do?

4: Some people still don't know what the 'shoulder' is. It's the side of the road. Sometimes paved. Sometimes not. Sometimes called the 'emergency lane'. What kind of self-important prick drives there? They're only risking their tires to debris and everything else sudden to road barrier changes.

5: Speaking of self-important pricks....

6: Just wear the darned seatbelt. Cars have had them for how many years now? What cave did you crawl out of?

7: HA! Erm... what was it before?

8: I still say we need a drunk-driving lane. You know, just one more lane...both directions...:2in1:

9: Now... back to the subject of self-important pricks....

And, for now, motorcycle lane-splitting is still legal. Guys: Slow the hell down before someone votes for a new "safety" law!!!!

Correction

Correction to the cell phone hands free part.

That law does not go into effect untill 1/1/2008

Virginia has some new fines starting July 1st,too.$1,000 a month for three months for reckless driving,DUI is about the same. They range from $750 to $1,000 a month for up to four months for serious offenses.

I agree folks should follow the law. But I am also concern that as fines go up and counties rely more and more on this income, some city administrators will put pressure on their police departments to keep the income coming and thus blurring justice.

County needs more money, raise taxes....

Wow this sucks about going over the speed limit 3 mph it use to be 5 mph over the speed limit. It is getting much more harder to drive around Cali

BEFORE attempting to go through the intersection, note if there is enough room for your vehicle on the far side.
If there is room, proceed.
If there isn't room, stop on the near side of the intersection.

If some cockjockey pulls in front of you from one of the intersecting lanes while you're trying to obey the law, feel free to lay on the horn until satisfied.

(If you get his plate number, he'll probably get a ticket too.)

Hey Folks,

In repsonse to this thread, I was preparing to purchase a hands free device for the car.... I discovered one very critical point that I wanted to pass along....

This law doesn't actually go into effect until January of 2008.... It will not be enforced in the People's republic of California until July 1st, 2008....

I just thought I'd make that correction for all the procrastinators in the audience.

D

One day you guys are going to fall off into the ocean....I hope soon cause I need some beach front property :D Kalifornia sucks LOOLOLOL it's an official law in 49 states :D
