New center console insert.

i am having a hard time finding the new design. all of the ones i find do not blow up well enough to get clean lines...will keep trying. i also went back and was looking at old posts and found the thread about the new VTCOA logo design. i kind of like the one where the viper head and the dodge ram head merge to make one. i might try to tool that one as well, if the artist of the picture doesnt mind me using his work.

Took a couple pics. First pic... Yep, know allll about dye ;)
The other pic show some armor (with tooling & such) that my mentor has been working on lately. Just to show what kind of stuff I generally do (with leather anyway). :D

i guess you know a little about dye then. what colors do you think would look good on this project? i am either going to use a very dark stain/antique look or black on mine to match the truck. i was thinking that maybe i would try and tool 5-6 with the old style emblem and 5-6 with the new style emblem and dye them different colors and then send them to whoever(admin) and let them raffle them off for some $$$ for the site. just an idea. Anyways, I aint got tons of money lying around to donate, but still trying to find ways to donate to the site in return for all of the info i get here.

that leather armour looks SICK! I love it! That is talent right there.

What I'll be doing on mine is black background and doing the logo and such in red. You have to be careful of bleeding when doing dual/multipe colors You can also use acrylic paints for coloring.
Concerning colors:
Black - We always use USMC Black (stands for US Marine Core I think)
When shopping at Tandy Leather/ Leather Factory you can get 2 types of colors (in general) Fiebings and Pro Dye. They are both made by Fiebings but the Pro Dye comes out brighter and looks better, and fiebings will come out bright and good IF you use an airbrush.

As for what you're doing, I agree with you on solid black, you can't go wrong with that esp. on a black truck, but if you wanted it to be a little more obvious you could start adding colors or go ahead with the antique look. But when I picture it being stained like that, it would look good but it wouldn't really match unless you added more matching tooled panels and leather stuff, in which case it'd look great IMO. One tip you'll probably like, just try the antique or multi colors, if you dont like it or mess it up, you can go over it with the USMC black.
As for surface, you'll want to treat it and I suggest Super Shene, thats what is used on that armor. Actually for reference, on that armor is USMC Black, Pro Dye Red, and gold guilding.

cool...i have some of the super sheen already and black cause i had to fix my belt on the santa suit @ x=mas time.(might work up the courage to send a pic in) i like the idea of solid color dying as it is obviously easier, but trying to come up with a yellow/black combo and possibly a white/blue combo. might try and work it out where i tool and dye the solids, but let someone who knows what they are doing do the multiple colors. Anyways as always thanks for all of the tips/info.

But about that white.... thats rough.... They have white dye but it doesn't work worth a flip. You can do acrylics though, but it still may not turn out very well.

well white just may not be an option then. maybe i will try on some scrap leather and not ruin one of the tooled pieces. i dont know. seems to be turning into more than just a simple project.

didnt get around to doing any tooling today, hope to finish it up mid week. will post the pics

Here is a pic with the tooling finished. It has 1 coat of brown and 1 coat of black dye on it. Looks choppy until it gets buffed out and sealed. Shows the preliminary fit in the console as well. Also I guess my son snapped a photo of me and the old lady this weekend. I call the photo "Beauty and the Beast", but usually i am the only one who gets away with calling her the Beast.;)

hey bro. instead of viper, can you do one that says ram srt-10,or viper powered.

Brat, are you looking for one to read
RAM at the top
and then the VIPERHEAD design
and SRT-10 at the bottom?
Or do you just want it to read RAM SRT-10 VIPER POWERED?
Anything can be tooled, just let me know the layout you would like. Please keep in mind, i have only been doing this for about 2 weeks now and this is my first complete project.

yeah bro.ram at the top, then the viper head, them srt-10 on the bottom died in red would be cool, you say that you have only been doing this for two weeks, but the picts.i have seen looks real good i would say that you have a talent for great leather work.

got to do something...dont drink anymore. would you want the old style or the new style viper head?
Here are some pics with the dye buffed and a first coat of sheen. Have to buff the sheen once more and put on final coat, then finally, hopefully will end with an installed pic.

The leather is just layed in there for now, not centered so it looks short in the pics, but is actually plenty of room for the ring to grab and hold the leather in place.

would like the new style viper head, like i said the pictures look great, you do real great work.

I will work on the design and get started on it. I have already downloaded the pic i need so its just a matter of making the pattern. I am going to assume that the console in the 04 and the 05 are the same and that you want it done in the bright red. will keep you posted on the progress. Thanks for the compliments.

brat i just noticed you were going to be there Saturday in tampa. I will try to have it done by then.
