ALright guys, I am wanting to get some REAL clutch information. I am about to replace the OEM clutch and I want to go to an aftermarket performance clutch with the VIPER slave cylinder upgrade. The problem is that the guy I talked to said that in his FURD with a 125shot of NX he had to replace the centerforce clutch within 6 months. I know these are not FURDS, and alot of poeple seem to be using the centerforce. Tell me the in's and out's of the centerforce with other clutches, or what the other options are.

Centerforce has been the most reliable and proven clutch so far, especially with the Master and Slave upgrade!! Just be sure to properly break it in!! I can't say enough about this!! 500-750 miles of city driving, No hard launches, no towing:D, no steep driveways etc:

You should be fine!!

I have 30,000 miles on mine and have just installed a SC, we will see how much longer it lasts!!:dontknow:
 
I dump well over 600 hp on my Centerforce frequently and have had no problems.
 
Is there anyone that is NOT running the centerforce clutch?? I am hearing mixed crap from everyone about the centerforce, and I just want to know what other options there are?

Mixed crap? Uh, dog & cat blend or what?

Have you had anyone on THIS forum who has installed one give you anything but positive feedback? There was another brand that was blowing up (RPS, I believe) that none of us would recommend.

As stated above, one of the key elements is the Viper master and slave kit. Just swapping that out makes the stock clutch work pretty well. If you choose to go with the Centerforce, you will want the Viper kit to reduce the pedal force (unless you want one leg slightly larger than the other :D ). You can get everything for about 1k, and it will be just about the best money you spend on the truck.
 
See... thats what I was wanting to know... if there was some other hardware vendor that made clutches and how they were... I talked to some guy over at DC performance and said the same thing, that unless I am pumping over 700hp to the clutch, he would recommend going with the viper upgrade slave/master and the factory clutch. This operation should be fine he said. THe problem I have is no one wanting to sell me the hydraulics for the clutches, they all want to sell the entire kit. Dont think that I need all of that... I will NEVER have a shot of NX or a SC on there... its all natural for me.... UNSHAVED!! THanks for the info! And I think thats what scared me was that with all of the opinionated guys on this site that there wasnt ONE person that chimed in with any other option, that seemed ODD. Either centerforce is a great clutch or centerforce has everyone on thier payroll.

Most of the oem clutches that have gone out have done so under 10K.

Just seems that with all of the bad luck people have had with the clutch, going with the full package is a pretty safe bet, that hedges your investment.

Very few have been successful with the low dollar approach to maintaining this truck...if that is your issue you may have made a poor decision on the front end in purchasing this vehicle...IMHO
 
Didnt Stinker go with a dual disc Mcloud set up in his RC?..I think thats right..And Im not opinionated..or on Stinkers payroll..lol
 
the problem with the hydraulics is they all match together, You HAVE to use

the viper master cylinder with the viper slave cylinder, neither one will work

with the stock parts.

You will also need spaceers for the master cylinder and the slave cylinder.

and being the price of a center force disc and plate is comparable to the

price of a centerforce then it would be logical to upgrade to the centerforce.


the problem with the stocker is the pressure plate is not strong enought to


support very much hp.
 
ITs not just about the money.... thats why god made credit cards.... the problem I have is, I want a solution, not something to just throw money at. I am not going to jack up the HP on the truck that much and cant imagine a 1500.oo clutch being the answer... but if it is.. then well... I will get it done. Its going to the stealership on monday and I will probably order the centerforce kit from Justin, and make them install it.
 
do yourself this then,

call Justin and get a break down on price.

then th dealership

compare prices.

you can use the stock press plate and disc, and without mods you will be oky doky
 
When my stocker went I had them (dealer) install the Centerforce which I paid for and the labor was all done under warranty and they gave me a new stock clutch and pressure plate in hand!!!

Maybe you can work out a deal as I did, all depends on your service rep!!

thats what I am kind of hopeing for.... I just want to make sure that I am getting what I need... not what I will never need! But shit, its all about the bulge.... why else do we buy all of the damn toys?

The clutch primer that Stinker outlined is the way to go.

Many have over 700 RWHP and have had no problems with the centerforce.
Break in is critical as has been mentioned.
The RPS has had a very high failure rate. (With catastrophic results)

Good luck getting your dealer to install the Centerforce and hydraulics. Most will not as it is outside their scope of thinking to use spacers, ect.
An independant shop may have to be located to do the job for you.

There is a great write up in the do it yourself section by Patrick and more by Stinker about chutches.

I am doing a moderate build on the red truck (around 800 RWHP) and I am going to use a centerforce setup.

RPS clutch's blow up, Mcleod has had some problems (ask Stingray) but Stinker has been successful.

My stocker blew up at 3k. Thank God I ordered the full centerforce upgrade. Back then ( 05 ) I had to choose between these three and non of the problems were known yet!!!! I have 9700 miles now with no problems.

VPRPWR, Daniel has the same setup with over a hundred passes on the track with Nos and a SC. PM him and ask him his thoughts. He helped me out 2 years ago.

My local dealer installed the clutch with the shims etc for $400 with no problems.

I have talked with guys at my track and many of them poo poohed Centerforce as well, just like your ford friends................I guess it all depends on your application. With our trucks..............no other clutch has lasted yet.

Well thanks, the last 3 or 4 posts were really what I was looking for. THier experience with other clutches and other options and what has really worked for you guys. I just want to say thanks and I want everyone to remember that when NEW guys come on here looking for help, doesnt mean that they are stupid or that they cant afford to do the upgrades... just means that they want options. Just like alot of you guys are pissed about the rotors, and the oil pans that cannot be found. So implying that someone shouldnt have bought the truck becuase they want options, is mildly irritating! And again thanks for all of the answers guys!
