I'm in talks with a small company that does CNC work on small parts. The idea I have is to have some inserts built to hold a typical size energy drink/ soda can in place in the RC style cup holders. This will be a simple project since it will be a basic barrel with a "handle" I'm looking to have this built to be flush with the top of the cupholder and have "SRT" engraved and filled in with body color on the "handle" portion. The handle portion will just be a solid portion as part of the assembly to take up the open handle relief on these holders.
I'd like to get a rough number of owners who would be interested in this because the more pcs ordered the lower the price. I'm getting these done for my truck regardless of how many order because as with my Viper the $40 ring that turned the ashtray into a perfect can holder is worth twice the price to me. These will be over priced I'm sure because it will be a piece designed and produced for a low volume demand. This is called the Viper tax in the VCoA forums. Just letting you know so others can have a chance to get a piece that looks like they are designed to look factory. If your interested please PM me and I can get a rough number to the company somewhat soon.
If your interested but want it to fit the common 20oz bottle let me know so I can dig out the calipers and get new measurements. Or even go with the 20oz setup but have a small shim made for the cans so there wont be any slop in the fitment.

I'm currently looking for a junk console to send him so he can make them fit as snug as possible and for final tweeks. I hope every one who decides they want one or a pair they are not going to be cheap. Keep in mind that CNC flat cup holder bottoms (flat piece that takes the place of the rubber mopar piece) sells for 70-80 bucks. I'm guessing these will be about 175-200 for the pair. I'm putting these numbers out so people dont get sticker shocked when they see it. If this was a mass produced vehicle these would be popping up on ebay. I'm getting them because I need them and dont want to give up form for function.

hell of an idea:rock:

some photos of the finished product would help when available also:rock:

Once I get the measurements for the guy he will need a total number of pieces needed (both left and right because of the SRT logo) to determine the price. I'll need to know who wants one right off the bat so they can get a cheaper price. He will keep the CAD profile on file so others can get them but they will pay full price unless they get a bulk order in.

Great idea, my Rockstar almost spilled the other day. Cant have that sticky crap on my carpet!! I'd be interested, but $200 is high. Maybe you can get it down some with more members willing to buy bulk.

Well, knowing the VCA like I do, don't forget to pay your Viper Vendor Tax befor you sell anything

I'm not selling anything.
From the looks of replys everyone wants to see a final piece. They can see the final piece in my truck then copy my idea and mod it to suit their needs.

Oh God yes, I'm in. In an energy drink drinker and those cup holders suck.

I just confirmed the prototype so once I get a console to send the guy he will get it on the cnc. My set is costing me 500 bucks then shipping. But I want them so it's worth it to me. I'm not going to sell them cuz I don't want to get into the whole vendor thing but he did say that additional pcs will be 160-180. Maybe I'll pass on the info and the guys contact to a vendor and let them make a dime off this. I just don't want my drinks to fly to the floor every time I turn. I might have a drinking problem but everytime I empty a can I have to stop to get a new one, my son is the same way. I might have to adapt the passenger side one to the size of a water bottle.

After 3 months of ownership, this is the biggest disappointment. It seems that the cup holders are made for a movie theater popocorn tub, and anything smaller just tips over on acceleration or cornering. I have the little rubber "magnifying glass" shaped crumb catchers at the bottom, but is there something that is supposed to grip the cup? It looks like the 2006 was improved, and even the flip down door would be better than this thing. I searched for cup holder, and this was the closest to what I am struggling with. Maybe I just need to keep a foam koozie on everything I drink. Not looking for a $500 solution though, just any advice.
