Hey guys! I wanted some input and to gauge interest, I'm contacting a few different machine shops regarding making grille emblem inserts for the 04/05 and possibly 06 grilles, and some larger door/tailgate emblems and even some that should directly replace the ones on our steering wheels, cost on almost all of them should be around 40 dollars. If I'm going to go about having these made I wanted to get an idea of what colors & logos (beyond sneaky pete and the fangs, and colors other than stock colors) you're all interested in. Also how large you all think the door/tailgate emblems should be, similar to the OEM Viper emblems or bigger?

I appreciate the input!

I kept trying to read your post but your sig keeps mooning me!!!! Stop the madness!!!!

Seriously, Justin makes beautiful emblems. Just came out with the 06 ones as well. check them out.

I agree, Justin makes great hood emblems already, why re-invent the wheel?

SLH is making steering wheels emblems, should be nice just like his other products!

If you need the factory/oem Viper emblem, Dragon @ avondale or The mopar connection has the OEM ones...

Seems like we already have many people involved in the eblems as it is...dunno...

Justin makes top quality emblems

Justin also charges 92 dollars for something that costs him 20 to make, I was trying to offer an affordable alternative. I spoke to justin and after questioning him on why he charged so much he told me it would be in his better interests not to sell me the emblems. I figured there had to be more than just me that didn't want to pay more than the OEM emblems cost for a 1.5" piece of metal and some spraypaint...

 Love your sig.............;)

Quick

Just as a point of reference about 1.5 yrs back we had a vendor over on the NFFF put together a group buy thru a machine shop that's well known for doing custom 1 off emblems for concept and show vehicles. The idea was to recreate the factory emblem but with the curve to fit the hood and replace the Ram emblem. We did a fairly big group buy of about 30 emblems which cost us with shipping $215 each. Initially the emblems looked pretty good a few problems here and there but 6-8 months later we had faded units, paint chipping and other assorted problems. Justins only issue I saw was initially he wasn't clearcoating the units which he now does. The price isn't bad at all when you consider a factory badge will cost you $75 and aren't even avaible as a replacement for the 06' Ram's... either way you ultimately decide what you purchase but I hope this helps you get a better idea of whats out there!!

oh well.

Quicksilver- Thanks man! Admins just made me take it down tho.

The cost of the piece isn't as important as the time taken to come up with the design, necessary materials and development testing (if done). All this, on top of overhead costs, may accumulate over time. Just a thought.

Very tru and Justins having the base plate painted and then clearcoating the emblem. The mans gotta make a living too

Hey SRT-11

There is a lot of things that you may not be considering. As a business owner myself I realize there are a LOT more to it than '$20 to make'. Between insurance, equipment, licenses (supporting vendor fees), and R&D, there is just more to it!

Justin is proven here on this forum and puts out high quality items. I have done a lot of reading on the various vendors on this site and Justin is one of the top ones. I actually have not found a negative comment on him. I also think there is something to say about his love for these trucks, I think he plans on being here for a long time, he is not going to be cheap or cut corners to turn a quick buck.

You know I am new just like you (I bought my truck the Tuesday before you bought yours and we met at Earls GTG). I have already ordered his CAI and catch can, and have talked to him and PM'd him on various other items. He has returned my emails & PM's, answered his phone, and has given me updates on my order that I have placed. He truly appears to be a stand up guy who has excellent customer service (which is rare these days). I can't wait to see the products he comes up with in the future as I know they will be outstanding!

From our conversation that we had at Earls you seem like you are going to be able to provide some great experience from your previous vehicles to this forum. I am looking forward to your DIY on clearing out the headlights that you mentioned!

I chose not to sell to you because you flat out insulted me and my work with multiple PM's without even seeing it in person. Its hardly a piece of 1.5" metal and some spray paint, they are professionally painted and hand cut/sanded/bent on my 05 SRT10 grill. The 06 emblem I bought a $200+ grill in order to make the emblems, I havent even got my investment back yet on those. Please dont make assumptions about my products when you dont have a clue.

The paint isn't sprayed on? is it brushed on? they're professionally done? by you yourself? Have you been making badges long enough to be a professional, or is this the first vehicle you've ever made them on? are they chrome plated or polished? I'm not making assumptions. My profession sometimes involves having things made from 5-axis & CNC machines and it would save you time and money if you had them made already shaped with the proper curve.

I wasn't trying to insult you, you're a valuable member of this forum and most of your prices are reasonable. I asked you how much you had in the emblems and told you I didn't mind spending so much if I knew you had at least 2/3rds of that price in cost. You came back to me saying "buy it or don't". I said "I love you man, I was just venting, I'll take one" you said "I don't think I should sell to you after your PM's"

I don't want to bicker with you and I wish you the best amigo.

They are painted by a professional painter, my good friend Paul at Pauls Autowerks, using top of the line Spies Hecker paint (Duponts premier line). Try taking a piece of small metal down to a good painter and see what he charges you to seal, basecoat and clearcoat using high quality products.

I have been a fabricator for 10+ years, and doing it for a living for 8+, so yes I can make an emblem correctly.

They are neither chrome plated or polished, they are painted.

If you have the equipment, then go for it, I do not so I hand fit everything. This works out very well because it keeps overhead costs down, but also ensures that every emblem fits correctly because I had it on my personal truck to verify it.

What is cost? Material only, so Im working for free? Whats the difference if I have .01 in it or 84.99 if its what you want and it does what its supposed to do? If I buy a 100K CNC machine to make them up or if I hand make them, cost is going to be very different but so is the amount of time involved in making them. This isnt buy low/sell high retail, this is custom hand made parts and my time is worth something.

I never told you "buy it or dont", please dont change my words around. You made it very apparant that you thought I was screwing people by charging $85 for a hand made custom painted part. I chose not to sell to you because you were already bitching about the price, wanting a discount, even bitching about $7 for insured UPS shipping. That leaves a huge gut feeling that no matter how good I made the badge, you would have found something to complain about.

There is enough drama on this forum lately, if you wish to pursue your emblems, good luck, but please leave me out of this.

Justin
