new mod....train horn (pics)

I don't know about the RR horns but I have since upgraded my tank - several gallons, larger proffessional grade line with larger connectors and cut-off switch now at 145 psi (instead of 115 psi). Compressor is a 152psi. Horns are rated at 152DBs at 150psi. Mine cost me about 500 bills. Had to reorder a solenoid and it was sent to me free by MyPushcart (Chris). Super service. They now have horns that will fit in a tighter space.

Unfortunately mypushcart isn't selling the ones that slow91 first showed on this thread. Also, the pushcart items don't sound like it either. Even the horny set up Bone showed won't compare. The actual RR train horns are simply the real deal. I loved them until Esh would hit the switch. Even when I knew he was activating them I would still be caught off guard by the ground shaking sound. had_to_have_it has that truck now and the horns are still installed.

the horn that is installed on the truck is for a train and came from a train yard. it is insane loud and when i was at dodge the other day a ricer had one and everyone in the service department told him that the one on my truck would own his. find a hook up at a train yard you wont be sorry.

Where you gain your DBs is thru the PSI of the compressor and stored in the tank, not the horns. Take that to the bank, or to your truck.

You've never heard my horns, so how can you compare them??:dontknow:
Reminds me of the Hemi forums.

Just an observation, but what do HEMI forums have to do with this thread.....

Zollie's Red RC has the RR issue horns that retail for about $1000.00 and then I did a chrome 3 gallon air tank with SS braided lines. If this were not enough, we installed a 175psi pressure switch with a NASTY compressor off of an air-ride system.

Yea, your's is probably louder......... We still have fun with these.:D.......TAKE THAT TO THE BANK......

Thanks for the info. How hard is the install on all this?

Smoke, it's not bad at all. Simple wiring with a relay for the pressure switch on the tank so it shuts off at the desired setting. The only "real" decision is where you want the horns mounted. As you can see in the first post I did away with the spare and welded brackets under the truck for a solid install that was out of the way for the headers and turbos I had planned for later.....:D If I had to do it again, it would be EXACTLY the same. Good luck.

Btw, PM me if you have any install related questions.

Esh

Thanks Esh. I prefer to keep my spare and the turbo takes up all the room on the room on the right side. Maybe I will mount it to the gas tank.

If it was an 'observation' then which were louder or meaner?
Hemi forums state without facts or direct knowledge, drives me crazy on their forums.
If you are squirting to the pressure 175psi then they have to be loud(er). Mine are 145psi cutoff due the tank safety limits.

That would be a great thing to have! I would use it every time I get pulled over. Once the bastard handed me the ticket and walked back to his car I would give it a little toot, just to see if I could make him piss his pants.

Because the same set up you showed and described I saw elsewhere and the owner (who purchased from pushcart) chose to sell them because they were not loud enough.

Not to pick a bone here but I have a cousin who went and bought these horns because of a buddy of his with a 5 gallon tank and 150 psi of pressure and (like his buddy) he too doesn’t agree that they are loud enough (compared to his neighbor who has real train horns on his 4x4). I think knowing three separate unsatisfied customers is enough fact for me to determine what I said earlier. What this has to do with Hemi forums? I don’t know other than continued support for substitutes over the real deal. Sound familiar? And what are you doing on Hemi forums anyway?:dontknow:

I like your idea Jimmy. But you best believe that cop will be right back on you for it... Unless you do it and get the "hell outta dodge." (no pun intended):dontknow:

Yeah me too - on my Focus.:D

Just gotta figure out where the hell to mount 'em?:dontknow:

My best "virtual guess" would be.........that if both sets of horns see identical pressure, the MY PUSHCART HORNS would run for cover......:afraid:

The five guys in town here with those PUSSCART horns have all stopped by my stereo shop to see the set-up on the SRT-10 after a night of rattlin' their teeth........:D

Maybe they didn't do the plumbing the right way........:dontknow: :star:

Please understand I'm not trying to pick a Bone with you......

On a side note, my contact with "The Underground Railroad" told me that the reason for the three horns on the RR issue is:

(1) For humans (2) For animals (3) For the hearing impaired.....because they will shake the ground to alert them.

Apparently they are regulated by the Federal RailRoad Commission.....:dontknow: That's the information I got from MY source.

That would be impossible since my setup isn't stock pushcart system. Took some larger fittings from my aircraft shop then some air line from the auto shop.

We are quibbling over not too much here.

The real issue is really power (psi) to the horns (and mass flow rate) to translate into DBs. Someone has 175 I have 145, the 175 system should be several fold louder (roughly 8 times louder making some assumptions; a WAG).

And what are you doing on Hemi forums anyway?:dontknow:
I own one. Why wouldn't I? :dontknow:

The fact is I don't care :dontknow: what anything other than real train horns sound like REGARDLESS of psi, P-E-R-I-O-D.

Now THAT would explain it.:D
