New Tool Box Suggestions

The time is fast approaching where I'm going to have to upgrade the tool box. I currently have a nice Craftsman 26"/16-drawer setup. I think the 50-ish inchers are a little too large, but the 40-ish inchers would be a nice size.

I'm very familiar with the Snap-On, Mac, and Craftsman catalogs....and so is my wallet. :)

I wanted to ask if any members had suggestions on other options regarding 40-ish inch boxes.

thats a nice one jack. tim c has one which i have every tool out on the ground and several peps i know have them and there a very nice unit
 
yeah definatly nice case bookmarked it for when i start rebuilding my garage :)
 
After doing a little more searching, I'm finding something odd:

NO ONE makes an intermediate cabinet for 40"-ish setups.
Craftsman has a single-drawer one.....that doesn't really count.
Snap-On has a "door-type" riser. That's also disqualified due to lack of drawers.

Does anyone make a 3 or 4 (or more) drawer intermediate cabinet for 40"-ish cabinets?
Or is there some sort of law against intermediate cabinets wider than 26"?

Kobalt tool boxes RAWK.... I've had MAC and Snap-On before, and these are built just as well. :) And they stock them at Lowes.

Looks like you've got it parked next to my air compressor, Jake!

Kobalt does look pretty sweet, even though it's only 20 drawers.
The SS one on their site is about $1K via Lowe's. I really like how the lid is shaped to allow viewing from the front (instead of "looking down into" the lid area).

The only downside I can see is the massive handles on the drawers. Batman's got nothing on me when it comes to hooking errant clothing/cords/etc. on microscopic protrusions.
Ever get hung up on the handles of yours?


BTW- Add another tool cabinet maker that doesn't do a 40"-ish intermediate cab.

Have you checked out the New Craftsman Boxes with the LED lights in the pull out drawer ???? Friggin awesome !!!A guy was standing there saying how it didn't compare to Snapons,but I'd bewilling to bet the price was far better than SO's !!!!

I am having the bottom box built into the trailer I am having built. Very well built and good glides on the drawers, big drawers have double glides.

It is the same as the Kobalt ones that they have at out local Lowes just a lot cheaper.

Kevan stick on of these (See below) in your shop, lots of room.

Yeah. I saw their new system.
Too bad it's only available in 26" (and back-ordered at every store).

I have noticed they changed the drawer handles on the new ones.... Mine are a little different. But, I also noticed they use auto-closing drawers now! :rock: A friend of mine has a Matco (I think) with those drawers, and they kick ass! :)

Oh, I used to work for Lowes, and they debuted the Kobalt line during that time..... Kobalt is owned and operated by Snap-On for Lowes. ;)

.......... It is too bad that they don't offer a 40" intermediate. :( But, it is a flat top chest (mine has an optional topper/organizer on top), so you could put a 40" inter. drawer set on there from another company. :dontknow: :)

There's a company called "Devil Dog Tools" that sells a bunch of different boxes on Ebay. GREAT prices, but I have no clue as to the quality.
The store owner does say (and show) that he owns one of the boxes he sells, *AND* he works on his own fast truck.
I'd say he's legit. :D

I find it comical that some of the other tool manufaturers actually emailed that forum to try and debunk Kobalt. :rolleyes: :D ....... They are great tools, trust me. :)
 
if you are looking to never buy another box again and use it frequently go with snap on or mac, i got a nice 52inch 24inch bottom box for 1700 used. harbor freight boxes are powdercoated. one of the newer techs at my work has one, and if he accidentally gets brake clean on it his box goes from red to plain silver like magic. the finish just wipes off. crappy quality. although the craftsman prof. series boxes are a good alternative. i do this shit everyday and use mine everyday so you know all i roll with is snap on. but i can see just using it on weekends or not everyday i would prolly look at a nice craftsman prof. get their catalog, they have some 40-52s in there i think
