new tranny problem

what would cause my transmission to become stuck in reverse? i went to school today and everything seemed fine. i come back two hours later and put it in reverse and when i went to go for first i couldn't get out of reverse. i sat there for 5 min trying to get it out and it finally came with some force. now everytime i put it in reverse it takes a lot of force to take it out plus my reverse lights stay on for 30 seconds afterwards. i just can't figure out how and why my tranny would get locked up in reverse with no signs.

Once you get it out of reverse is the shifter still stiff or does it free up?

its on and off. sometime i can't move the shifter to the right from the 1/2 gate and sometimes from the 3/4 gate. Now i can't even get it back into reverse. i definitely think the shift rail is messed up as well as the reverse shift fork. pulling the trans tonight and hopefully pull adapter plate and tailshaft off to see what is going on. had a lot of metallic material in my oil.

Hmmm, good luck with finding the problem. Dont over look the 2 bushings that the shifter rail rides in that are in the top section of the tranny. Mine were scored and caused my shifter to be super stiff. It was that was since the day I bought the truck and I fixed it a few months after.
