Double "U" Tee Eff Mate?

Why is watch thread 3 fkn pages long?! I should go back and read all the posts eh?

I wish I could wear a watch, but I hate the way it feels on my wrist. I've seen some great looking watches here lately that I would love to have. :)
Then quit being a wuss and go get a watch,girlieman.:p :p :p

I would, but I only want to wear a watch as a fashion statement. My truck's radio has a huge ass clock (gotta love the '06), and so does my cell phone. :p

Thats true you are a fashion diva.:p :p :p :p :p :p

Hey Kevan, I have "bitch" wrists too LOL. The only watches that I have found that I like are Movados. The size of the watches are good for those of us that don't have 18 inch wrists hehe. And I have had my black museum watch for over 10 years now, as you can imagine it has had the shit beat out of it during that time. The only issue I have had with it is the finish on the band wearing.

I'm with Bob, I love my Movados!:rock:

The crystals on them last forever!! Very hard to scratch!

Almost impossible. I have been down on the bike more than once while wearing it, still looks like new. And you can find them at really good prices if you look around.

Sure can! The Men's Warehouse has them, as well as Sam's, usually at slightly below jewelry store prices.

I got a killer deal on my first one in Nassau, Bahamas! Almost 1/2 price!!

Thanks guys, but neither the "Moon Watch" (which is very cool) nor the Movado are digital.

Thanks for hitting the sore spot, Jimi. I wouldn't feel so bad if my truck had a f-ing clock in it. :)

I have an Invicta, one of the self-winding ones that I would sell you cheep, but I think it would be bigger than you want, and it's not digital.

For the record, I have a Citizen Eco-Drive that is very sweet, and I have a Bulova that I like a lot.

What I am saying here is, it's time to grow up a little and diversify! Get a beater watch to wear around, and a nicer one to wear when it's time to play dress-up! :D:D:D

Watches are to men, what purses are to women. You can never have to many, and you need one with each outfit!!

Ah, the Speedmaster.... Good choice! I always loved that watch!

It is a really special watch to me emotionally. My father was given one to him by his men under him on the USS Forrestal (after the big fire). He then proudly handed it down to me in 1976. I proceded to go surfing with it on in a bad place in Panama. I came out of the water and the Locals had never seen surfing before so there was a bunch gathered on the beach. Well one of them came around behind me and snatched it right off my wrist. I threw down my board and proceded to chase the little shit, he had shoes and I had none, it was very rocky terrain. I cornered his ass at a wall and was just about to nab him when I looked behind me and there was no less than 6 Panamanians throwing big rocks at me, fortunately I managed to dodge them all but in the meantime that little shit slipped into the slums never to be seen.

I was devastated and did not know how to tell pops. I finally mustered up the courage and told him. He was very understanding so much that he bought me a new one next XMAS. This one will stay with me till I die!! And I mean that!!:)

As I previously said I wear it on special ocasions only, My daily driver is a Freestyle Tide watch. Great watch if you need to follow the tides!!

Sorry Scott.
I can't do it.

I bought my current watch when we lived in Long Beach, NY. It's got a cool tide graph on it. :)

Here is a little History on the Omega Speedmaster Professional

HISTORY
The movement's design and development was begun in the 1940s by Albert Piguet and Jaques Reymond at Lemania. It was started as a project titled "27 CHRO C12" (27 cm diameter, chronograph, with extra 12-hour totaliser).

Omega 321 Calibre. Note the column wheel at 12; and screwed balance wheel.

The very first Speedmaster model was released by Omega in 1957, and contained the 27 CHRO C12 movement (also called Lemania 2310, or Omega 321). Its unique case design is attributed to Claude Baillod. Omega made some external design changes to the watch in 1960 (black bezel, larger case 39 to 40 mm, dauphine hands replaced arrow-shaped hands).

In 1965 NASA purchased five reputable chronographs (one of which was the Speedmaster) from several jewellery stores in Houston. NASA then proceeded to abuse the watches with tests of extreme environmental conditions. Their aim was to determine if a suitable watch was available for their Space Program. The final three contenders for the "Official" NASA chronograph were a Rolex, Longines Wittnauer and the Omega. The reasons for the Rolex's departure were that it stopped running on two occasions during the Relative Humidity Tests and subsequently failed during the High Temperature Test when the sweep hand warped and was binding against the other hands on the dial. No other tests were run with the Rolex Chronograph. As for the Longines Wittnauer: "The crystal warped and disengaged during the High Temperature Test. The same discrepancy occurred on a second Longines Wittnauer during the Decompression Test. No further tests were run...." (Japanese Speedmaster Book).

Although its opponents were clearly unsuitable, the Omega didn't come out of the tests unscathed. The Speedmaster gained 21 minutes during the Decompression Tests and lost 15 minutes during the Acceleration Test. The luminescence on the dial was destroyed during testing, but despite these setbacks, it passed satisfactorily. Furthermore, NASA was going to modify the Omega with two changes: a) replace the bezel with a rotatable 24 hr bezel and b) add additional luminous markings to the elapsed time dials, but these changes didn't take place due to time constraints.

NASA began using the watch. Omega only found out what NASA had been doing with their watches in April 1966, well after Edward White was the first American to "walk in space" (wearing a Speedmaster on the outside of his suit). To commemorate its success at NASA, Omega added the word "Professional" to the title of the Speedmaster in October 1966.

Meanwhile, since 1965 Lemania had been re-designing the movement. The chronograph function was simplified from column wheel (castle wheel) to a Shuttle/Cam system. And the balance wheel frequency was increased from 18,000 bph (2.5 HZ) to 21,600 bph (3 HZ) which enabled use of a flat balance spring (We also suspect the change from a screwed balance to a smooth balance wheel). This calibre was released in 1968 as Lemania 1873 (Omega 861).

Omega 861 Calibre.

NASA continued using the Speedmaster Professional for all its manned missions including those to the Moon (it is unclear whether they re-tested the new calibre). Then in 1978, prior to the start of the Space Shuttle Program, NASA ran another series of even more extreme tests - this time on 30 different watches. The Speedmaster Professional was the only watch which passed. Apparently the Speedmasters employed by NASA on their STS (Shuttle) flights are hardly ever seen. Most crew members are allowed to wear any timepiece within the Shuttle, but as soon as EVAs are initiated the Speedmaster must be worn. However, examination of Shuttle EVA photos does not show Speedmasters adorning astronauts' wrists.

If they would have shipped me the right one, this thread would have been done 11 pages ago.

My truck has a clock in the radio, RB4. Tied to GPS time so it is accurate as anything can be.

Jack- it's kind of a running joke here.
The clock on the RB4 is smaller than the LCD display on my G-Shock.
Sad, but true.

.....I appreciate a watch for its complications, weight, design and quality...tag, invicta..etc are canned designs with small changes throughout the spectrum of their history......

You want COMPLICATED? :D Try the TAG Monaco V4.... It's fckin BELT DRIVE...

:D :D :D :D

Or, maybe a Greubel Tourbillon :p (It's a mechanical movement that uses a gyro to equate the pull of gravity on the gears.... this makes the timepiece highly accurate. All with NO Batteries. ) It's only $90000.

Ah... sorry, got a little carried away there... Lemme see what choices we have in Ana-Digi's below $400.... :burnout:

From testing a few hours ago:

Here's the baseline (G-Shock w/Swatch metal band):
P1030326.jpg

Here's the Timex Expedition:
P1030327.jpg

It's a fairly large size, but with the right strap it *might* work.

Timex jacked my order.
From their site:
IronmanGray.jpg

Notice the buttons are gray, the text and the logo on the dial are silver, with a blue "M" in the logo. The second hand is blue.

The watch that arrived:
P1030328.jpg

Notice that the buttons are blue, text and logo are blue with a black "M" in the logo. The second hand is blue.

Oddly, the model that they sent me is NOT on their site. I couldn't find the blue button one anywhere online.

Here's the watch mounted on it's retail stand. You can see that the band is an integral part of the watch:
P1030331.jpg

It's really a shame. That gray-button model is DAMN CLOSE to what I'm looking for.

I'm not sure if you can tell from the pics, but I strap my watch very tightly to my wrist. It does not rotate or move in the least. It's basically bolted in place. It's a watch not a bracelet. :)

Ya know, Kevan... The Timex Dual Tech really does look the best. :) It's easy to read, and not cluttered..... all the buttons are large and accessible. :dontknow: I can see now why you need a smaller watch. That Explorer looks HUGE on you!

Have you looked at any of Nike's watches? I saw some styles last night that were pretty cool. :dontknow:

I think the one they sent you IS the one in the picture, I think it's a Black and White that they used to accent the Blue Logo and second hand.... They just made the wrong things blue.
