As some of you may have seen, im looking to get a RC with 6 speed. Are there any consistent problems i should look for or be worried about when buying one? I know the transmission is a weak link at some point.
 
The 6 sp trans works great up to 1000HP...after that you are on borrowed time......only real problem with the trans is shifting...3 rd gear is hard to hit when power shifting...solution is to get a B&M or X-Metal shifter plus change to a Viper master/slave..

My friends stock truck is hard to get into second even normally. What is the cause of that?

AMTRUCKER - i know its modded and is probably a great price but its out of my price range

Could be a number of things..simple as fluid could need changing...but getting into second has not been a common problem...3rd is another story..

he told me he had heard it was common, maybe not. basically it grinds shifting into second, truck only has about 20k or so on it.

Havent seen a complaint on it around the forums...a few have had trouble getting in gears, especially reverse, but causes have been burnt clutch fluid, clutch and or flywheel worn out and other..

i had issues like grinding second & missing third.....:( the fix was a centerforce clutch, fidanza flywheel (optional), viper master/slave hyd cylinders & an x-metal gen4 shifter (b&m is an option)...... :)

smoother shifting with mobil 1 ATF in the transmission.

what kind of money are we talking for that stuff? if you dont want to say dont worry about it

Would you/do you use these trucks as your daily driver. This will be my daily driver so it has to be reliable.

Mine is a RC and has 22K on it and is a daily driver, never had any issues with anything. Did have a few issues with third gear for a while, then figured out how to hit third consistantly and not a problem. Great truck.
 
Trucks are solid. You will find things that you WANT to upgrade. Unless you plan on boosting it you should be fine
