Hello all!!! I am a newbie to the Viper Truck. Just purchased an 04 regular cab, 6 speed manual. I have been around muscle cars all of my life and all of them Mopars. I also have a 79 Dodge D-150 4x4 Macho Wagon Clone with a 440 c.i. with a 727 TF. 6 inch lift... will upload photos of both.

My question is this, I seem to have what I would best describe as a valve rattle, almost sounds like a roller cam, of course when you buy a used vehicle it is almost impossible to know exactly what it is that you are buying. Is this a typical sound for the v-10, one "expert" mechanic at the local dealership told me that he didnt hear anything strange but yet I am leary.

Also I seem to have the same issue with most with the brake squeal and copious amounts of dust...reccomendations for pads and is the stock rotors the issue or is it the pads.

Glad to be part of the family and thank you in advance for your assistance.

These engines are effin noisy dude. They rattle and hum. The really best way to know if yours is off is to listen to another one. People have changed ot EBC green pads and zuchausen or something. Best to do a search on that question.

04's came with 4.10 gears, upgrading to 4.56 or 4.88 really wakes up the truck. Make sure your clutch line from the master to the slave is routed away from the cats. On early models it was too close to the cats and overheated the fluid.

What mods do you have in mind? Dont tell us your going to stay stock? No way, not visiting this site! LOL

Welcome to the RBC dude

Yep, like Patrick said, they just sound like that...... some of it is injector "tick". Some of it is the fact these V-10s have a uneven firing order. Just the nature of the beast.

There are some good brake pads out there. RBC (Greens), Zeckhausen, and QuietStop are all good choices. I had Quiet Stops on mine and they cut down on dust A LOT (no squeal either).

Welcome to the forum. :)

Welcome to the forum, maniac  :D :marchmellow:

Performance Friction pads work great for an 04 .I have them front and rear and very little dust (almost zero) and positively NO squeal ! Aoto Zone usually has them.I do not remember the part number.Use the "advanced search" feature to find the numbers. There are several old threads that have them. They will be listed as the ones for a 3500 RAM (for the rears ,I think ? )

Welcome to the RBC :D  :congrats:

Yep, Nelson is correct. I went this route and I deal with virtually NO brake dust or squeeling. Yeah, no but seriously, welcome.. If you are on any form of a budget I suggest you run and hide your wallet.......... :eek:NOOOOW!!

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! I am in Montgomery, alabama. Truck is my daily driver until the beast gets back then planning some minor mods.

Thank you for the info also on brakes and engine noise. Glad to be a part of the family!
