Which is better a radar detector or a radar Jammer? and why?

A good DETECTOR would be my choice. A jammer will only jam radar and won't alert you. Without the prior warning you will continue to exceed the speed limit (if that's what you're doing). A cop will visually determine that you are driving faster than allowed and will likely still follow behind you either harrassing you or pacing you. Yes, pacing usually isn't permissable in court, but you will still have to deal with the aggrivaion of going and pleading your case. With a detector you will slow down before you get within his proximity and coast by unbothered because you'll be under or at the speed limit. That's just my opinion though.:dontknow:

Aren' Jammers illegal:dontknow: Detectors are the way to go If you want no more speeding tickets:rock:

Jammers aren't illegal in all states. Radar detectors are ok under certain conditions. They only work if the cop is clocking other people up ahead of you, if you're pretty much alone he'll flip it on when you're in range and you're busted by the time your detector goes off. Also if you live where they clock with lasers a detector is almost useless, the spread is little that the cop can hit individual cars and you'll almost never pick him up until he's shot you.

I ran a Valentine One for awhile, never got a radar ticket but did get a laser ticket. Cops in Ga almost exclusively use laser so its no help. The best thing is a jammer and a detector.

"RADAR" JAMMERS are illegal in all 50 states. Federal law. Laser/Lidar jammers are not governed by the FCC. They are controled by the food and drugadministration. So Laser/Lidar are legal in most states. Some states like California, utah, Colorado, Ok, Tn, Il, Va, SC, Mn. have outlawed them.

You are absolutely right.

There are legal laser jammers. The blinder extreme is reported as being quite good. The thing is laser is not nearly as wide spread as the industry would want you to believe. My brother is a officer in SC. He only has 3 LIDAR units in his town. His town is the 3rd largest city in the state. Making the choice is a tuff one, when you factor in the cost vs real exposure.

Detectors on the other hand are only helpful if you are not the lead car. With instant on technology, the detector is really only a pull over warning, if you are the target.

I don't suppose that is Beaufort is it? I though other states had laser like Ga does. The only time they use radar is when driving down the interstate, every time they are stopped and clocking its laser only. Guess I need to move:dontknow:

That's why if you are alone or ahead of others you remain at or below the speed limit.

My brother works for the Town of Mt. Pleasant. It is adjacent to Charleston.
They use lidar when doing speed enforcement (traps), and they share the units among them during normal patrols. I am not claiming that they are not out and in use, as I know that my small town has LIDAR. I just do not think it is in every patrol car at this point.

the thing is anything that actively broadcasts (jams) without a license is illegal, the way the "legal" (passive) jammers claim to work is to accept the initial signal and bounce it back with some static and throw the reading off. I've been told they have jammer detectors built into newer speed guns, and that's probably a narsty ticket. you can find plans to build an active jammer on the net though.
