NO TRACTION!!!!!

ok you buncha bozos!lololol

its real simple, most of us will be driven on the street or he strip

on the street with the locker anyting ''can'' happen, but common sense should tell ya with 500 hp to only '' get on it'' on a straightaway, not turned, on the crown of the road or so on. in that case the locker will shoot ya ass in a straight line 90% of the time.

now if ya goofy enough to be hot doggin in the rain or on,goodness forbid, the ice, well ya ass is on ya own!
lolololololol

I don't disagree. But my observation is under what I think is the main use of this locker rear end...drag racing. A few of us road race, but in the straight line drag racing environment that we developed this concept for, it helps. Once we start to loose traction we have probably lost...its not that we are trying to recover, it's objective is to keep it straight with momentary loss of traction (the ideal chirp of a great launch and up-shifts, which by the way have successfully alluded me to date) as we try to achieve minimal elapsed time in a straight line.

I know nothing of drifting, road racing, or closed course stuff...I do know the advantages I have experienced with this locked rear end in attempting straight line acceleration. When I over accelerate off the line it stays straight, it does not fishtail. When I hit 2nd or 3rd too hard is breaks the tires loose, but does not fishtail.

Marc it locks under heavy acceleration, it unlocks when turning corners and is unlocked in normal driving.

ACtually in a Detroit locker is is normally locked. Not until their is a torque difference between the tires, like when rolling around a corner, does it unlock. Been around lockers for alot of years in the off road world. Maybe it is a diffrence in the tires you are runing or something but I don't see the locker itself helping you go straighter, maybe it is just the practice :burnout:

I don't normally disagree with my elders, buuutttt. Well I got so say you are a little off on that. A locked or working posi rear ends is what generally causes these problems. When both tires are locked and spinning they pretty much have a mind of their own are are going to try and pass the rear end any way they can, this is even worse when coming trough a corner. If you have an open rear you are going to just spin one tire and the other acts like an anchor holding the rear end from sliding side to side.

If you have ever driven a fully locked rear compared to a open on the ice you know what I mean. Come on over and I can show you in my off-roader where I can lock and unlock the rear end with the flick of a switch. Same goes in the rain a locked rear end can get spooky.

To some degree what you are saying is true in that both tires will go the same speed with a locker where sometimes a limited slip may give you different tire speed. But no mater what if you brake them loose coming out of a corner with either it can get wild. With the weight of these thing when they brake loose and then snap back their is alot of force. Yes I been their and done that.

In that case, please explain to me how spools work in drag racing.

Whats to explain, both axles are always locked together no mater what. Both tires will turn at the same RPM. IF the tires are exactly the same diameter they will go the same MHP. Spolls also get rid of wieght and are pretty indistructable. But it is not something that you would want to run on the street much. Better yet try sterring a 4x4 truck with a spool in the front, its a treat. (ya that is off topic)

I don't care what you got in the back if it breaks traction the back end can get squirrley. Even top fuel dragsters will smak the wall when they tires loose grip at 1/2 track, and you know they are all locked up.

Okay, now explain half track burnouts.

No response to that one?:dontknow:

Didn't think so.

Sorry I do things at night besides watch the forum. I never said burn out, I said loose traction. You have never watched a drag car brake the tires loose down the track do to too much power applied too quickly. They get to be a real hand full.

Did someone steal your bananas, you seem a bit grumpy.

Okay, now what is the difference between losing traction and a burnout?

fishtailing is fun!

You obviously are much younger than me. I think I remember when I felt the same, but I have become more aware of my mortality as I approach the ultimate shut-down.

I envy you:( :( :(

losing traction is a accident, a coincidence so can surprise the driver
burnout is induced by the driver so no surprise.

i'm i good ? :dontknow: :D :D :D
