Noticed an oil leak today

I noticed an oil leak on the truck tonight, and looked underneath, it appears it is coming from a hose just above and near the oil filter. Has anyone else had this issue?

It is dark and freezing here and I did not want to spend alot of time looking at it, just yet. Any insight on this would be appreciated. I am under my extended warranty and may just let the dealer take a look at it.

if you are under warranty and have a dealership that you trust take it in ......should be fixed no prob.....i believe that if it is the oil lines leaking this has been an issue and tony(stinker) @jtsvp has an aftermarket upgraded stainless steel line kit for our trucks!!!!!!
 
I took a closer look at this today and do believe it is the oil lines leaking. It appears that the lines are leaking/seaping where the fitting and the hose meet, not at the threaded end where hose meets the component.

Has anyone had any success just tightening the fitting to the hose? The hose seems to be in good shape just loose.

Does the dealer sell this hose and fitting, or do I need to have one made somewhere?

I prefer to stay stock, or upgrade hoses, but keep the stock look.

The hose is fine. There is a single o-ring in the threaded portion. Pull the black plastic cover back exposing the C clip. Removing the C clip and you can pull the hose from the threaded portion. Either replace the oring or better yet order a new threaded portion from your dealer for about $5. Replace and you'll be fine for oh.....a little while and then you'll be down there doing it again, again, again and again. Don't worry you'll get pretty good at replacing this just in time to begin replacing all of the other quick disconnect fittings Dodge put on our trucks. Take a peak at the line coming out of the top of your powersteering pump. Give it a wiggle...yep, loose to because its also one of those special fittings. That one is a little more interesting to replace. I particularly like how the Dodge service manual states if you remove the fitting you'll ruin the powersteering pump....not true btw.

I've got 80K miles on my SRT so I've had plenty of 'experience' with these quick connects. You can buy an aftermarket kit from one of our vendors for about $200 for your current problem or you can source the parts yourself for about $120 for quality AN fittings (both lines/all fittings). Plenty of manufactures offer the parts needed in various qualities, colors and less cost if you so chose.

actually I have them cheaper than you can build them only $100 for the reg an fitting lines, $180 for the lifetime crimped lines, sorry havent had time to change it on the site yet:eek:
 
I did notice the plastic covering and the area you are talking about, I thought this might be a different case however, becuase it looks like it is leaking from the hose and fitting connection, not near the plastic covering area. I did not see any oil on the plastic fitting or near it.

If I am looking at this wrong please correct me, it would not be the first time.

Are your regular AN fitted lines better then the stock lines? I would prefer to solve this and not have to repair this again, at least for a while.

to me they are, I am gonna call them in the morn and see if i can get you the black lines with black fittings to look oem for ya.

I cant remember where but ZXc posted somewhere about taking the oem lines apart, and the area you are speaking of , and how badly they were put together, maybe he will chime in on it.

but if the o ring is not leaking , then it is most likely the line itself, but i will try to let you know tommorrow on the black lines sir
 
you can't do any better than Stinkers life time lines.

they are teflon lined with stainless steel cover. they last for years & hundreds of thousand of miles, which ever comes first.

if ya read the link that was provided by Prof you will see that my hose burst.
all of my stuff went down just days before Stinker got his lines for sale is why i don't have his, YET!!!!

Just a quick update to this, I changed out 8 o-rings on both hoses and replaced them to no avail, the lines are still seaping. Just purchased the lifetime lines from Stinker, will update once they are installed.

It appears the hoses were leaking at the fitting and hose connections, now they are leaking at the hose/fitting and at the threaded ends. This whole system is some cheap, ridicoulous, bs.

got it bo, they will go out tommorrow and should be there in a couple days sir
 
Just an update to this, I installed the lifetime oil lines last night and test drove about 10 miles, so far so good.

Thanks for all of the help and reccomendations.

And thanks to Stinker for the great service and quick delivery.

Good products and flawless service...a great model for success...we have several vendors here that treat us that way!
