OK, before all the do it yourself'ers speak up, that is currently not an opportunity for me right now due to my living conditions....also, some people on the board just don't wanna do it or get security in having a dealer receipt....

Regardless, GET A QUOTE EVERY TIME YOU GO......last two visits to Jax CJD, I've paid about $120.....they always to a great job and I always get great service....well, once again, they did a great job and I got great service....but when I went to check out, the bill was $200......$140 for oil and filter, $60 labor.....I even had the service tech check it in the system, the labor from $30 to $58 and the oil and filter went up as well.....

Learn from my mistake.....get a quote first.....if I get a coupon in the mail for $120 or less, I'll probably go back....otherwise, I'm now going to have to drive a ways for a freaking oil change.....

Dude, $50-60 bucks for oil change DIY. Thats what I am doing, and I am using a K&N filter and 8 qts mobil 1 synthetic. I had enough about paying more than 100 bux for an oil change.

edit; read the first part, now I feel like a dolt :( Sorry about the high costs bro, try to price match with different dealers I would assume :dontknow:

Jason,

Are you sure they did not take you in the back room for more than an oil change. ;) ;) ;)

$200.00 for an oil change is just obscene. $13.50 per quart for oil is just off the charts, and $60.00 Labor?

The dealer you went to must not want any repeat business.

I would have to talk to the owner or general manager of the store. And file a complaint with the local Better Business Bureau.

hey we pay almost $100 for a tank of gas once or twice a week, a $100 oil change is worth it. it's not worth my time to climb under there and drain the hot oil, change the filter, clean my garage floor, and dispose of the oil. not to mention the fact that it's illegal here :-(

now, a $200 oil change is a rip off.

Jason do you have any friends that can get you on base? If you do you can use the auto hobby shop. They have drive on lifts, all the tools and only charge $3.00 for oil disposal. Might be an option. You could also see about buying the oil youself and just going to some jiffy lube type place and see how much they will charge you for labor only. That could be a win-win-win.

Guys, appreciate all the ideas.....I have every intention of learning from my mistake, but I hope some of you can benefit from this as well....

Please, remembers to ALWAYS GET A QUOTE, even if you go to the same dealer every time....

AWD, agreed - while I've always liked toying around and wrenching when it's something I can't mess up :D , I don't like oil changes either....that, and diff fluid....

Just to add to this a little bit. Get to know your service reps too. You can usually get things done cheaper. (Employee Discount)

You should ask them if you could supply the oil and have them just charge you for labor and a oil filter. That would save you a lot of money.

Hell Jason, tell your Ex that with the cost of maintaining your truck you can no longer afford support payments...give her the owners manual and the invoice from this oil change...maybe you can turn this lemon into lemonade!

You can take your used oil to Kragen or Autozone (If available in your area). They charge you nothing for you to dispose as much oil as you want.

I bitched about the price at my first oil/filter change - about $115 at Dallas Dodge. They took it up with the service manager who agreed it was a little high, so they charged me $95. Now I remind them of the $95 price everytime I go (otherwise they forget :p ) Have never paid over $95 in 7 oil changes.

As for the $95, I remind myself that it's a $50K truck (or was :p ) and deserves premium care and products.

Kragen in Arizona to Midwest is known as - Checkers, and in east I think they are Schucks... as in CSK Auto.
