Oil Pressure at 25 PSI while idling.

Naaaawww...worse...they caught me practicing my 1/4 mile times in a 25 MPH zone.;)

But I got my priviledges back and we is straight!:D

Thanx for the input guys! I appreciate it!

Dude!!!!!!! Growing up on army bases I learned real fast you never speed......ever!!! The MP's would give you a ticket for just a few mph over the limit. They were completly unforgiving!!

I got a ticket on Ft. Bragg years ago for flashing my lights at on-coming cars to warn them of a radar trap...the ticket was for impeding justice!

FSM info on engine oil pressure for 8.3L engine:

CHECKING ENGINE OIL PRESSURE
1. Remove oil pressure sensor (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/LUBRICATION/OIL PRESSURE SENSOR - REMOVAL).
2. Install oil pressure gauge.
3. Warm engine at high idle until thermostat opens.
CAUTION: If oil pressure is 0 at idle, Do Not Run engine at 3000 RPM.
4. Oil pressure should be 68.9 kPa (10 psi) at idle or 310 - 517 kPa (45 - 75 psi) at 3000 RPM.
5. If oil pressure is 0 at idle, shut off engine. Check for a clogged oil pick-up screen or a pressure relief valve stuck
open.

There not much nicer on an AF Base

Krazy u still on the island? if so ask what weight they used bro, if its real dang hot, go with something besides 0w anything:D

but yeah bro 25psi is good at idle

I was always told by an old engine builder buddy of mine that you should always have 10 psi of pressure per every 1000 rpm. Of course he never built a Viper V-10, only V-8 GM's. As for speeding, don't get caught here in Japan by the base MP's or the local Japanese police. They are cancelling people's orders, suspending their drivers license for 1 year, making you sell your car and kicking them out of the country. Of course you know where most of them are getting stationed... the wonderful Iraqi desert.

As far as I know they are using the factory recommended stuff, I dont get my hands dirty with the car oil. I Get enough of the -23699 and -83282 all over them.

And for the speeding thing....WHERE WERE YOU GUYS 8 MONTHS AGO WHEN I GOT BUSTED!!!:D:D:D

I finally got my ticket appealed on the 4th of August...so I got off the hook about 5 months early!:)

On the upside...only 8500 miles on my beauty....most of the nicks and scratches have been caused by the dealership, the nieghbor and the lawn guys!:(

That's odd that we have such a variance of oil pressure readings. Mine sits at about 50 psi at idle and jumps up when i rev it.

Some causes of low oil pressure that I have experienced in my race car:

#1 - water in the oil (blown head gasket)
#2 - worn rod bearings (low oil pressure happens before any other noticeable knocking happens.
#3 - clogged oil pickup (usually my fault by getting RTV or something like that in the oil)
#4 - bad oil pressure gauge. This has actually never happened to me but it's a possibility

Mine never goes below 50 at idle either. However, your #4 is why I prefer mechanical gauges over electric. If my stocker ever dies, that is what it will get replaced with.

I use a mechanical gauge in my race car too. it's so freaken fast to react too. I love it!

the only thing is you have to run a line into the drivers compartment that (if it leaks) could spray hot oil on the nice leather interior!

After doing a risk analysis, the benefit of having an accurate oil pressure gauge outweighs the risk of oil leaking in the cab. The only gauge I would consider installing that is electric is fuel pressure, but if you purchase an isolator you can go with a mechanical version of that too.
