I changed to Royal Purple 10w30 synthetic oil today. I had to put in 9 qt. to bring it to middle of the fill area on the dipstick. I have never had to use more than 8.5 qt. of mobil 1. I started the truck and had normal oil pressure of about 75lb at idle. After driving the truck for about 30 minutes and stopping at a stoplight, I noticed the pressure drop at idle to just under 50lb at idle. I know that the oil will thin out when it reaches full opperating temps, but is this normal to have such a drop?
I also have a loud noise at startup. It started during the previous oil change when I installed a mobil 1 oil filter. It sounds like a freeking shop vac whining and then fades away. I thought it may be the oil filter, but it still does it with a purolator pure 1 oil filter.
Any thoughts on the oil pressure or the noise?

I had the same noise when I installed the mobil 1 filter. Just buy the mopar filter. As far as the oil pressure dropping, I've seen that before too. Some folks said dont worry bout it:dontknow:

Drop in oil pressure at idle is normal...there are issues with some filters causing noise...most recommend sticking with the oem filters...there are two:

The viper filter is on the right the stock SRT 10 is on the left:

Go back to the Mopar filter,And see if that helps.

The oil pressure will move from 45psi (idle) to about 75psi (throttle).
That's totally normal for these engines.
Doesn't matter what brand or weight of oil you use.

Not sure about the noise.
Try the OEM filter.

I never really noticed that much of a pressure drop before with the mobil1 oil.
Does anyone else use royal purple?

Well some oils do affect the oil psi. in the summer I ran 10-60 by castrol. Its the oil used in the M3 and M5. Keeps my oil psi @75psi all the time even in the hot hot weather.

I learned something today, I didnt know there was a viper filter.

I have used 15-50 Mobil -1 with no noticeable change in oil pressure. Some people using the Viper filter have had noise or a whine.I had a whine when i installed the Mobil 1 oil filter.

Maybe Muzzy will chime in! He uses Royal Purple in all of his stuff. Says its great oil. He also doesn't use the OEM oil filter and told me that every other brand of oil filter (not OEM) will make that whinning noise at start up. He has had No Problems at all and is not concerned at all!
Muzzy are you out there?

Part number for the Viper filter is on the box in the picture.

i have been chasin the "whine" for a while now. its not the oil filter. although have found the the different designs & media used in filters help dampen or amplifies the noise.
the prob is in the oil pump by-pass valve. talked with Kevin @ Exotic Engine. its called "shuttlin". there is an update for the prob. will be orderin the parts from Kevin shortly.

I have RP in the truck right now, 15-40. No change in oil pressure or no noises. it actually seems quieter with the RP, except when the SC is screaming!!:D

I am using the OEM filter.
