It's time for the annual Spring oil change and I've been debating on what weight to use. My truck is totally stock and thus far I have always used Mobil 1 0W-40, but I've noticed that a lot of other owner's are using heavier oils. Should I move to a heavier weight, or is the 0W-40 sufficient?

pm Vman he has some killer info on oils

but I have allways followed the temperature rule of thumb, the hotter the weather the thicker the oil, the colder the thinner.

heat breaks down oil quicker thus heavier wiehgt
cold use a thinner, thick oil on start up is hard to get to temp

I now use 15 w50 and works very good of cousre I'm in Houston where it gets hot and humid

Alright, I think I'm going to stick with the 0W-40 for now. Nebraska doesn't get near as hot as Houston does! :) Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it!
